Marine Safety Advisory: Round The Island Race
The Bermuda Police Service is reminding members of the public that the Around the Island Powerboat Race will take place starting at 2.00pm Sunday [Aug 18] and they are encouraging everyone to “make this year’s event as safe as possible for all users of Bermuda’s waters”.
A police spokesperson said, “While the Bermuda Powerboat Association have put safety protocols in place for race participants and members of the public – including discouraging racers from coming too close to shore in the Elbow Beach area – residents that plan to be out on the water this Sunday are advised to avoid the racecourse and to be mindful of their surroundings.
“Swimmers and scuba/free divers in particular should avoid the racecourse, with any divers ensuring that their positions are marked with a surface marker buoy.
“Let’s make this year’s event as safe as possible for all users of Bermuda’s waters.”
