September 3, 2019

Following the catastrophic damage in the Bahamas caused by Hurricane Dorian, Premier David Burt extended sympathies to the people of the Bahamas, and said he has reached out to the Bahamian Prime Minister to offer support.

Premier David Burt said, “On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to our neighbours in the Bahamas devastated by Hurricane Dorian. Our sincere condolences go out to the families of those killed during this catastrophic storm.

“The destruction has been tragic and the images that I have seen of the region so far are heartbreaking. It is incredibly sad and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Bahamas during this difficult time,” the Premier said.

“I have reached out to Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis to offer any support we can. We will be assessing our resources to determine what we can provide and how we can best assist. In consultation with the Governor, we will look to deploy the Regiment if necessary.

“We will continue to pray for those who have been impacted by Hurricane Dorian and for those who are still in the path of this powerful storm.”

Locals who wish to donate to help The Bahamas can do so via the Bermuda Red Cross, which launched an appeal to help those affected by Hurricane Dorian, which slammed the Bahamas leaving at least 5 people dead and causing catastrophic damage.

Update: In a very sad update, the international media have just reported that the death toll in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian has increased to seven.
