15-Year-Old Kenny Leseur Set For PGA Debut
At only 15-years-old, Bermuda’s Kenny Leseur is the youngest in the field at the PGA Tour event set to kick off this week.
The island’s first official PGA Tour event at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, with a purse of $3,000,000, presents a massive opportunity for Kenny and the four other local players in the field.
Kenny earned a sponsor exemption into the October 31-November 3 Bermuda Championship after posting 74-73 in a local qualifier.
The teenager, who attends Florida’s International Junior Golf Academy, played a Tuesday practice round with World Golf Hall of Fame member Davis Love III and Michael Sims, a former Korn Ferry Tour member from Bermuda. .
“It’s crazy to think that I’m sitting here right now doing an interview when I was just a couple weeks ago sitting at home in Florida,” Kenny said in an interview this week. “But I really liked playing with Davis and Michael, learned a lot of things by the way he practices and works his way around the golf course. I’m excited for it.”
Kenny has long dreamed of participating in the PGA Tour but he wasn’t expecting to get the opportunity at such a young age.
“Kim Swan was my coach before I left Bermuda,” Kenny said. “He helped me out for about three years. I knew he was probably the most accomplished Bermudian in golf.
“I’ve always played a lot of golf with Camiko Smith and Daniel Augustus. They’re big mentors for me and I still like to play with them a lot and both helpful for whatever I need.”
Mr. Augustus, Mr. Sims, Jarryd Dillas and Dwayne Pearman are the four other Bermuda players competing in the field of 120.
