California’s High Tech High CEO Visits Saltus

Saltus Grammar School recently welcomed the CEO of California’s High Tech High, Larry Rosenstock, and his wife Jean Kluver at its latest Saltus Speaks event.

A spokesperson said, “Thanks to the support of the Saltus Association, Saltus was thrilled to welcome the CEO of California’s High Tech High, Larry Rosenstock and his wife Jean Kluver at the latest Saltus Speaks event held last week.

“Larry Rosenstock is a star in the field of education, and he was recently awarded the prestigious 2019 Wise Prize for Education, the first American to receive this prestigious award. Jean Kluver is a graduate of MIT and has held many prominent positions within elementary education, including Dean of High Tech High Elementary.”

“Over a couple of days, it was a pleasure to immerse these two respected educators in the Satlus culture. They spoke to students and answered questions on their innovative learning model that combines technical and academic education.

“They also had the opportunity to tour our St. John’s Road Campus with our Gold Key students, visit our Cavendish Campus, and present to parents during our fully subscribed Saltus Speaks event.”

“It was an important time for Larry and Jean to come to talk to all of us [students, teachers and parents] at Saltus.” said Deryn Lavell, Head of School.

“We are moving ahead with enhancements to our curriculum and introducing new teaching methodologies that help prepare our students for their futures at Universities and beyond. The commitment to academic excellence at Saltus is unwavering as we move to meet the global trends in education.”

The spokesperson said, “The opportunity for Saltus teachers to ask practical questions and delve deeper into the impact of project-based learning in the classroom was also provided in a dedicated question and answer session with both Larry Rosenstock and Jean Kluver.

“Those in attendance were able to gain insight on the benefits of a programme that is looking forward to skills students need in the future – such as leadership, project planning, self-navigating work and confidence to express opinions.

“They were also able to discuss testimonials from university aged students who had been exposed to a project-based curriculum and understand the fundamentals of observation, reflection, documentation and exhibition provide a framework for student learning.”
