February 15, 2021

HSBC TEDS Bermuda Feb 15 2021HSBC partnered with The Eliza DoLittle Society [TEDS] charity and provided 250 grocery hampers to the community last month.

This took place between the 26th and 30th January 2021, and a spokesperson said, “Over the four day period, the distribution of the 250 hampers from the charity’s food bank location in Warwick benefited over 600 individuals.

“The hampers were stocked with fresh vegetables, ingredients for a side dish, along with choices of meats and desserts.”

Danielle Riviere, interim Executive Director, TEDS said, “The demand for the provision of food and groceries by members of our community has substantially increased since the start of the pandemic last year.

“We continue to see our client base increase as more individuals experience financial hardships stemming from unemployment.

“January 2021 brought a 36% increase [compared to the same period last year], in the numbers of individuals receiving food through the food bank. This is reflective of the overall 30% increase in demand for the months of March 2020 through January 2021.

“HSBC’s generosity and that of many corporate and individual donors through various charities, enabled the provision of much needed food hampers over the 2020 end of year holiday period. Such acts of kindness are greatly appreciated as these hardships continue for many in our community.”

Clesia Pachai, HSBC Community Investment Manager, shared, “The Covid-19 restrictions over the past year may have provided a unique set of challenges to our employee volunteering initiatives but we were fortunate in that we could still make a meaningful contribution to the local community through TEDS, by way of a $40,000 donation to the charity’s pandemic crisis relief efforts.

“The need is high for a cohesive and collaborative approach as a community to address a number of social issues in Bermuda. HSBC takes great pride in working with various key stakeholders to ensure we responsibly and effectively support our community to re-strengthen our economic and societal health.”

The Eliza DoLitte Society food bank is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00 am – 2:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am – 12:30pm. For additional information or assistance, please contact teds.director@gmail.com.
