Creativity On Display At BHS Innovation Expo

February 5, 2020

Bermuda High School [BHS] held its first ever Innovation Expo today [Feb 5], with students showcasing their work from the past few months to parents and peers.

A spokesperson said, “On Wednesday, February 5, BHS held their first ever Innovation Expo. Students from across primary and middle school showcased their work from the past few months to parents and peers. On display was a dazzling array of creativity – for example, replica Roman landmarks, Mars rover stations, catapults, and Lego structures.

“Props made by students for the recent production of The Little Mermaid were on show, as well as items the girls had made using the 3D printer and the GlowForge Laser Printer. The projects also highlighted the cross-disciplinary approach to learning which BHS has adopted in the past few years.”

Head of Primary Tracy Renaud said, “This has been a labour of love for our staff and our students – they have worked so hard to put this together and they are so excited to share with their families and the wider school community today.

“Our approach in Primary is inquiry-based in our core subject areas and through the International Primary Curriculum whereby questions and exploration drive the learning for our girls, which results in what we see displayed today.

“These experiential projects are not only fun, but they create deeper learning by encouraging the girls to make connections and comparisons between subject areas, and develop their problem-solving and team-work skills in the process.

“By working together in this way, we are teaching our girls from a young age to respect each other’s ideas, to ask good questions and work through challenges, to use all the tools available to them and then share their knowledge with others.”

A Year 3 parent said, “It’s amazing to see all the work that has been going on; school was not like this when I was younger.”

The spokesperson said, “For anyone interested in learning more about the learning that takes place at BHS, contact Director of Admissions Minta Watson at mwatson@bhs.bm or 278-3047 for a tour.”
