AFP Documenting Charitable Covid-19 Response

May 15, 2020

The Association of Fundraising Professionals [AFP] Bermuda Chapter is endorsing a project to track the philanthropic response to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesperson said, “To document and affirm the generosity of charitable giving in Bermuda right now, the Association of Fundraising Professionals [AFP] Bermuda Chapter is endorsing a project to track the philanthropic response to the current COVID-19 pandemic on the island.

“In support of Bermuda’s vital third sector, this project is being spearheaded by National Museum of Bermuda [NMB] Advancement Officer Katie Bennett, who is an AFP Bermuda Chapter Member and AFP Chamberlain Scholarship recipient. This project is supported by the entire AFP Bermuda Chapter.

“Worldwide surveys anticipate increased charitable giving this year. Other charitable activities, like in-person volunteer time, are expected to decrease. This time of remote and virtual activity may alter the third sector landscape forever, changing how institutions serve their communities in the future.

“Bermuda’s story of historic generosity will be told long after the pandemic. If you are witnessing something you think should be documented – from volunteer services, to donations of PPE, food, or other goods, to monetary donations, please contact Ms. Bennett at advancement@nmb.bm to ensure all of the charitable efforts ongoing in Bermuda are properly documented.”

Ms. Bennett said, “Documenting the impact of community response and experience is so important during this uncertain time. We have already seen many meaningful expressions of philanthropy across the island and need our community’s help to ensure we capture them all.”

The spokesperson said, “This collection of community response and experience ties into the Museum’s newest project, #UnitedTogetherBDA, which aims to collect electronic mementos of Bermuda residents’ experience of living on the island during this pandemic. Find out more here.
