Elizabeth Mulderig To Donate Painting To KEMH

Artist Elizabeth Mulderig will donate a painting to the children’s ward at KEMH as an act of “thanking everyone who works on the frontline at the hospital, including first responders.”

A spokesperson said, “Elizabeth Mulderig has added a new painting to her Bermuda Wonderland series. She will be donating this painting to the children’s ward at KEMH. It is her way of thanking everyone who works on the frontline at the hospital, including first responders.

“Her donation follows a long line of artists doing the same thing around the world. The most famous of whom is Banksy. He created a beautiful print of a boy holding a super hero toy over his head flying. The toy is a nurse.”

Ms. Mulderig said, “It is the care and brevity of everyone at the hospital that has helped get us through this, thus far. Even though covid numbers seem to be down it’s still a concern that they could rise again, just like they have in the States.

“I’d like to record this moment of honour for front liners pictorially.”

The spokesperson said, “Her painting depicts Tiny the Tree Frog in a wonderland garden. He is next to a flag saying, ‘Thank you K.E.M.H.’ She believes adults feel like they are in wonderland right now due to this pandemic.

“So if grown ups have a hard time understanding it imagine how children feel? The painting is brightly coloured to bring cheer and hope for a Covid free future.”

Ms. Mulderig said, “The fact that the virus is now known to harm children as well is heartbreaking. The world has turned into a science fiction movie overnight. This painting is my way of hugging hospital staff and first responders from a distance.

“I hope the painting will represent in future the memory of people who risked their own lives and showed up to help in the most frightening of times.”
