TeleCare: First Nurse Telehealth Program
Lunette Castillo is launching TeleCare, Bermuda’s “first nurse-led telehealth programme,” which provides “Bluetooth vital signs monitoring, remote patient monitoring, care coordination, chronic disease management, medication adherence, COVID-19 monitoring, transitional care [i.e. hospital discharge], health education, health coaching, and more.”
A spokesperson said, “TeleCare Bermuda allows you to have a nurse available at your fingertips. TeleCare Bermuda is your Bermuda based virtual healthcare advocacy service and is dedicated to promoting health equity by waiving ALL health insurance copays.
“Our mission is to improve the health of all residents of Bermuda by delivering innovative telehealth services that are proven to reduce the burden of chronic disease.
“The service operates from 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
“TeleCare Bermuda provides telehealth nursing services that are tailored for the residents of Bermuda. We specialize in Bluetooth vital signs monitoring, remote patient monitoring, care coordination, chronic disease management, medication adherence, COVID-19 monitoring, transitional care [i.e. hospital discharge], health education, health coaching, and more.
“The service was founded by Lunette Castillo, BSN, MSN, FNP-BC, Doctoral Candidate, Leadership to Improve Health Population Outcomes.”
Ms. Castillo said, “I feel honored to bring an evidence-based telehealth nursing solution to Bermuda that is completely tailored to the needs of our population. The evidence shows that the greatest improvements in our individual health outcomes occurs in the interactions that we have in between physician visits, and I am completely humbled to be able to bring such a service to Bermuda.

“The International Council of Nurses’ president Annette Kennedy wants to empower nurses to understand that “nurses are central to addressing a wide range of health challenges and that we are essential to helping achieve the sustainable development goals.”
“According to our Minister of health the honorable Ms. Kim Wilson during an address to the house she described the prevalence of obesity and non-communicable disease as being “a matter of national importance.”
“She further stated that obesity and non-communicable diseases are causing an economic burden over time and that she was committed to tackle the scourge of obesity and chronic non-communicable diseases in Bermuda. TeleCare Bermuda aims to achieve the health priorities as set by WHO, ICN and our Minister of Health Ms. Kim Wilson.

Interesting…I thought the BHeC was not recommending telehealth be covered by insurers beyond the Covid crisis! Did I miss something here???
