Butterfield Reflects on Ironman 70.3 Cozumel
Tyler Butterfield reflected on his performance during the Ironman 70.3 Cozumel race.
Butterfield posted on social media, “Cozumel you never disappoint! Super happy to get a racing in for 2020 and manage to get on the podium.
“Huge shout out to Ironman Mexico & the Island of Cozumel for pulling off another great race and weekend with IM703 Cozumel and Safe Covid-19 protocols in place.
“COVID has hit everyone hard and like sporting events tourism has been massively hit. Coming from a small island that relies on tourism I can relate. It was great to see this event happen and visible the difference between 2019 and 2020, but Cozumel has its beauty like all the islands and it was great to see it yesterday again. I hope events like Ironman and triathlons can help safely regenerate some tourism. I know the triathletes were ecstatic to have a major race on. Thank you Ironman Triathlon for the efforts to get safe racing back in play.
“Congrats to Sam Long for executing an amazing race for the win and a new course record!
“I’ve been fortunate enough to call Long a training partner this summer along with Andre Lopes and so it came to no surprise to see this. It was a pleasure to watch in person yesterday.
“Thanks to both Long and Lopes for letting an old dog tag along this summer, I wouldn’t have got to this race or result without you boys.
“Also on training shoutout to Origin Performance Group for helping with swimming in 2020 amazing group to be able to train with, thanks Ian.
“Nice to see Mauricio Mendez Cruz back racing and always a threat, had me running scared as I know first-hand how well you run in the heat and final miles of a 70.3. Congrats on 3rd yesterday.”
