BNAA 2020 Cross Country Season Underway

The Bermuda National Athletics Association’s 2020 Cross Country season is underway, with Covid safety protocols in place.

BNAA President Donna Raynor said, “The BNAA are pleased to inform you that we have started our 2020 cross country season. We have had to cut down the season to four races including the National Championships.

“We were very conscious of the event locations and making sure they were being held in open areas; Arboretum, Astwood Park and the Botanical Gardens.

“We have been in contact with the Minister of National Security department and have been given exemption to allow 150 competitors to participate in the cross country events.

“The BNAA had already created and sent out the Covid-19 cross country guidelines to all of our affiliates and they were approved.

“The first event was hosted by Swan’s Running Club and took place at the Arboretum which was our test run to make sure everything ran smoothly and met the guidelines which everyone adhered to the guidelines.

“This coming Saturday the event will take place at Astwood Park hosted by D.N.A. Track Club beginning at 8:00am.

These guidelines are in place for every event:-

  • “Registration is online only prior to the event as there will be no registrations at the event. here
  • “All persons collecting numbers will have their temperature checked and must have wear a mask or they will be turned away
  • “All spectators must wear a mask and social distance as much as possible
  • “All officials must wear a mask
  • “It would be preferable if everyone bring their own liquids [there will be some at the event just in case]
  • “The first race will begin at 8:00 with each age group being run separately as each race can only have 20 competitors
  • “If there are less than 20 participants in an age group they will be combined but will never exceed 20
  • “If there are more than 20 in an age group they will be run in waves”
