Covid: One More Positive, Now 14 Active Cases

October 30, 2020

There were 992 test results received yesterday and one was positive for Covid-19 — which is classified as imported — so Bermuda now has 14 active cases.

A Government spokesperson said, “Yesterday, there were 992 test results received by the Ministry of Health, and one was positive for COVID-19. This most recent case is classified as imported having arrived on BA 2233 from London on 24 October. This case is a visitor [non-resident] who tested positive on their day 4 test and was asymptomatic. Case isolation and contact tracing has begun.

“Bermuda now has 199 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:

  • there are 14 active cases [all imported, consisting of 5 visitors and 9 returning residents], who are
  • all under public health monitoring, and
  • none are hospitalized or in critical care;
  • a total of 176 have recovered, and
  • the total deceased remains 9.

“The average age of all of our confirmed positive cases is 55 and the age range of all of our positive cases is from 7 to 101 years.

“The average age of all deceased cases is 74 and the age range is 57 to 91 years.

“The source of all cases is as follows:

  • 88 are Imported
  • 90 are Local transmission, with known contact
  • 21 are Local transmission with an unknown contact, and
  • none are under investigation

“Bermuda’s country status is ‘Sporadic Cases’. The seven-day average of our real time reproduction number is less than 1.

“The Ministry of Health would like to advise the public that The Public Health [COVID-19] Emergency [NO. 3] Order 2020 is in place and therefore a public health emergency continues to exist in Bermuda. Residents should continue with precautions of correct mask wearing, physical distancing and ensuring activities or events, if they must be held, are held outside as often as possible.”

  1. Wahoo says:

    Numbers going up daily people.

  2. Bob says:

Numbers have to go up. Not so safe bermuda for tourism propaganda after all.

  3. Stop trying to outrun the inevitable says:

When will the majority realize we cannot outrun this virus? It’s here to stay, and rather than continue to cripple the economy, take whatever precautions you think are necessary, and get on with life.
China has a lot to answer for, and I’m sure Winnie the Pooh is laughing at how terribly the West is coping with their manufactured virus.
How many people need to be jobless/homeless/hungry before we realize that we need to learn to live with this alternative form of the flu?

“When will the majority realize we cannot outrun this virus? … take whatever precautions you think are necessary, and get on with life … China has a lot to answer for”

You clearly have been educated by Donald J. Trump.

I do not know why you think China has a lot to answer for and you seem unable or unwilling to explain that statement.

Here are some facts. If Bermuda had Coronavirus-19 infection rates proportionate to that of the United States (2.7% of the population) or the United Kingdom (1.5% of the population), Bermuda would have between 967 and 1,691 confirmed infections instead of 199.

If Bermuda had Coronavirus-19 death rates proportionate to that of the United States or the United Kingdom (in both countries 0.07% of the population), Bermuda would have 43 dead from Coronavirus-19 instead of 9.

If you want to check my numbers I suggest the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine website at https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html

  4. Better be Careful says:

    • You can’t outrun this says:

Then I suggest you wrap yourself up in cotton wool and stay at home until this is all over. You’ll likely die of old age because this is unlikely to ever be fully eradicated, but at least you won’t die of the ‘rona.

  5. Jewels says:

Europe is now a hotspot for COVID-19 with almost all of the new cases coming in via British Airways. Perhaps it’s time to go back to the 14 day quarantine for travelers from the UK before the horse bolts from the stable.

    • You can’t outrun this says:

Then you can say “goodbye “, “au revoir”, “arrivederci”, “aufwiedersehen”, etc to the few tourist dollars we are currently receiving to prop up our failing economy.
