Football: Derby Weekend Match Previews

October 29, 2020

The upcoming Bermuda Football Association Premier Division match week will include five fixtures labelled as derby matches.

A spokesperson said, “The upcoming Bermuda Football Association Premier Division match week sees a lineup of five fixtures labelled as derby matches.

“On Saturday, October 31st, Dandy Town battles North Village Rams at home. The two teams will play each other twice within three days as their recent matchup in the Dudley Eve Semi-final on Wednesday ended 4-0 to Dandy Town.

“After a good start to the season, North Village was denied the chance to go top of the Premier Division table after dropping points against X-Roads with a 2- 2 draw on Match Week 4. Dandy Town has a chance to continue their run of good form and go top of the table.

“They have a game in hand over current league leaders, Robin Hood, and a win this weekend will see the Hornets two points clear as new leaders.

“The remaining Derby matches will take place on Sunday, November 1st. The Somerset Derby will see SCC Trojans take on Somerset Eagles at SCC. Bottom of the table Eagles have yet to make an impression after a rough start to the season and will be looking to do so during their short trip across the bridge to Somerset.

“Following a good start to the season with two consecutive wins, Trojans lost their run of form, losing to league leaders Robin Hood and second-placed Dandy Town, followed by a draw to Devonshire Cougars. The last time Trojans and Eagles met in the Premier Division was January 2020 and October 2019 in which both matches ended in a draw.

“Southampton Rangers and PHC Zebras are level with seven points each, however, Zebras have a game in hand over Rangers and will be looking to go three points ahead this weekend.

“After a rough start to the season and only picking up one point in their first two matches of the season, Zebras have won two consecutive games, including a comfortable 4-0 against X-Roads. Southampton Rangers look to continue their form after holding league leaders Robin Hood to a point, and a win at Devonshire Colts.

“In their last two meetings, each club has claimed derby bragging rights as PHC beat Rangers 2-0 in February, following a match that saw Rangers win 3-0 in October 2019.

“The two Devonshire clubs will face off at Police Field, as Devonshire Colts take on Devonshire Cougars at home. Newly promoted, Devonshire Colts have yet to win a game in the Premier Division this season, losing three of their opening four matches.

“Third-placed Devonshire Cougars have won three of their last four matches following a loss against Dandy Town in the season opener. The last time the Devonshire clubs faced off in the Premier Division was in the 2016/17 season, in which Cougars took all available six points up for grabs.

“St. George’s and X-Roads will face off for the first time in the Premier Division. Newly promoted St. George’s are seeking a second win of the season after back to back losses against Devonshire Cougars and Robin Hood.

“St. George’s have only scored once this season, in their win against Southampton Rangers. Meanwhile, X-Roads have only scored two goals this season in their 2-2 match against North Village. X-Roads will be looking for their first win of the season, and three points will see them one point clear of St. Georges.
