The Happy Valley Child Care Center Parents Teachers Association [HVCCC PTA] thanked the local community for their support in helping to purchase a replacement school bus.

PTA President Trina Davis said “On behalf of Happy Valley Child Care Centre and the PTA, I would like to thank each and every person who invested in our children by making donations towards the replacement bus.”

A spokesperson said, “HVCCC uses the HighScope Curriculum which emphasizes play-based and child-centered education. The curriculum also encourages children to explore, interact, and exercise their imagination through purposeful play. The bus is an integral part of the curriculum as it enables the teachers and students travel to gymnastics, swimming and other weekly field trips.”

HVCCC Program Coordinator Andalyn Swan said, “HVCCC provides child care for some of the most vulnerable children in Bermuda and our community field trips are some of the most influential experiences for them. The excursions allow the children to have real-world experiences, extend learning outside the classroom, and open their minds to a wide range of experiences and opportunities.

“I would like to thank all of the companies, groups and individuals that have partnered with us in continuing providing transport for the students. There are too many to name individually but in particular I would like to thank Bermuda Breeze VIP Transportation.”

HVCCC PTA President Trina Davis-Williams said, “On behalf of all of the parents I would like to thank all of the teachers who have worked hard to come up with solutions and creative ways of learning whilst we have been without a bus. Your commitment to developing the next generation and investing in their future is of benefit to everyone in Bermuda.”

President Davis-Williams also said, “Thank you to the Government of Bermuda for their support but in particular I want to acknowledge and thank Jim Butterfield of Butterfield & Vallis who donated a sizeable amount as well as spearheaded the replacement bus project. To the donors, who wish to remain anonymous, your donations made the difference and we are forever grateful.”

Jim Butterfield said, “I am glad that we could partner with HVCCC PTA in their drive to secure a replacement bus. Butterfield & Vallis is a close-knit, community orientated company, and we love to be able to support community focused projects such as this one.”

The spokesperson added, “The school bus was first attacked in February 2019. In June 2019, the nearly new bus was completely destroyed by an arsonist over the Hero’s Day holiday weekend. The school building was then attacked in October 2019 when an arsonist set the school shed alight destroying many of the schools outdoor toys.

“To date the arsonist has not been caught by the police so the school has taken alternative steps to help secure the bus when it is not in use. If you have any information on the arson attacks, please contact the police on 295-0011 or alternatively you can contact the confidential and anonymous charity, Crime Stoppers, on 800-8477.

“If you would like more information on how you can partner with the PTA in purchasing replacement toys that were destroyed by the fire please email happyvalleypta@gmail.com.”
