Police: ‘There Is No Truth To This Rumour’

November 25, 2020

The police said there is “no truth” to the rumour “circulating on social media suggesting that there was a shootout,” and noted that the police were conducting a training exercise which “involved a number of loud bangs which may have been heard.”

A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a message circulating on social media suggesting that there was a ‘shootout’ in the city area. We would like to inform the public that there is no truth to this rumour.

“However between 8pm and 8:30pm this evening, members of the Bermuda Police Service were conducting a training exercise in the Prospect Police Headquarters area.

“This exercise would have involved a number of loud bangs which may have been heard by people in the area. We wish to apologise for any distress that this may have caused.”

I heard the ‘loud bangs’! There is no ‘which may have been heard by people’! The bangs were VERY LOUD! I think a ‘heads up’ would have been nice so people would not be so alarmed! Prior to the ‘bangs’ the area was very quiet except for the occasional traffic. So, yes quite alarming.

Absolutely. A notice by the Police would have been most appropriate before the sound of a gun fight at the “OK Corral”!
