Govt: Public Bus Service Resumes On Thursday

December 16, 2020

Bus service will resume daily operations tomorrow [Thurs, Dec 17], the Ministry said this evening.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Department of Public Transportation [DPT] is pleased to advise the public that the bus service will resume daily operations tomorrow [17 December].

“The Ministry of Health undertook a risk assessment and is satisfied with the workplace protocols in place at DPT. This confirmation and the enhanced department protocols allow for a safe return of the public bus service.

“The requirements for physical distancing, hygiene, and mask-wearing will continue onboard buses and at Central Terminal. The riding public is asked to refrain from using the bus service unless it is essential.

“Before boarding, passengers are reminded of the following:

  • Do not travel if you are unwell or displaying flu-like symptoms such as a fever, cough or sneezing.
  • Wear your face mask at all times; individuals without will not be permitted to ride.
  • Sanitize your hands on entry.
  • Adhere to the physical distancing signage when choosing your seat.
  • Reduce conversations; if you must converse with the bus operator, do so at the door.
  • Healthcare workers must not wear their medical uniform on the bus.
  • Natural ventilation is best. Weather permitting, please keep windows open at all times.

“I must thank and recognize the collaborative efforts of the DPT, Ministry of Health, and the unions, who worked together to ensure we could safely resume the bus service for the people of Bermuda.”, said the Minister of Transport  Lawrence Scott.  “I also take this opportunity to thank the public for their patience and understanding as we went about our duties to protect our island from Covid-19.”

The Ministry added, “The bus schedule is available online at www.gov.bm/bus. For service information or to provide feedback, call 292-3851, or email info@dpt.bm.”

This follows after bus service was suspended on Friday, December 11th after a member of staff tested positive for Covid-19.

  1. Curious says:

    Will open windows be required?

    • Concerned says:

Hopefully, but even earlier this month when Covid was already breaking out several drivers told me I had to close my window…

      • Curious says:

Me, too. That’s why I hope open windows will be required/enforced!

  2. Concerned says:

So glad to see the life-saving suggestion for open windows and hope that this is adhered to.

  3. Tourist says:

Hope windows will be kept open (or at least be allowed to be opened). Was stunned to have been admonished several times to close my window. Open windows are required in other places afflicted by Covid.
