OBA Comment On Senator’s Trump Support Post

January 19, 2021

The OBA has moved to distance itself from comments made by one of their own Senators in support of U.S. President Donald Trump, with the OBA saying that while “each one of us is entitled to their own personal opinion, their opinions may not necessarily reflect the sentiment of the Party, which is the case of the recent social media post from Senator Marcus Jones.”

Many Bermudians have been keenly following the recent developments in the United States, with President Trump, who has repeatedly denied the election results, set to leave office as the only US President to be impeached twice, as over 20,000 National Guard troops are stationed in Washington D.C. in an effort to prevent another siege on the Capitol.

In a message which appeared on social media, OBA Senator Marcus Jones said, “Good morning from the island of Bermuda. Today’s ‘Give Him 15′ touched a chord with me as I have taken up the mantle with you to pray for America and President Trump.

“Since he was elected as President in 2016 Holy Spirit has prompted me to be an intercessor for your President who in that time has become my President. Most of my family and friends, who are believers, dislike President Trump and cannot see God’s hand in His plan to place him in this office. They disregard the President’s policies that have defended religious freedom, declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel or recognized what he has done to improve your economy.

“So I am a minority supporter of the President in my community but a staunch one. I believe God and the prophets and I encourage you not to leave or lose hope in what God has spoken. I represent many around the world that are interceding in this hour for you and believe that God is about to show Himself strong and mighty on behalf of His cherished nation America. When Dutch mentioned the International Family this morning’s I felt a part of that family and wanted you to know that this family included someone from Bermuda. God has extended His mercy to America!”

He signed the message as “Senator Marcus J Jones,” prompting some to complain on social media he should not have signed the missive using the term Senator.

In a subsequent response on Facebook, Senator Jones posted, “My sentiments and support of President Donald Trump is mine and not the OBA.

“I endorse the policies of the current President that promotes defending the unborn, moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and promoting religious freedom. I realise that in a world that we live in today, it takes courage to stand up for what you believe in especially when it is unpopular.”

Following the social media post by their Senator, the OBA posted the following message on their own social media account, “While the One Bermuda Alliance recognizes that Bermuda has the privilege of religious freedom and that each one of us is entitled to their own personal opinion, their opinions may not necessarily reflect the sentiment of the Party, which is the case of the recent social media post from Senator Marcus Jones.

“With that said, as a Bermudian political party, we have no intention of officially commenting on, or of getting involved with the internal politics of the USA or any other country.”

If the good Senator had badmouthed President Trump, no one would have said anything. As always, Bermuda’s double standard is in full bloom.

    • Jack Archer says:

I just don’t see how he can support Trump who has demonstrated his racist and Misogynistic feelings over and over. Mr Trump’s pro-life stance has also appalled many and he has further added fuel to the israeli/palestine issue.
He has demonised the media, he has pardoned people who should never have been pardoned (apparently for money) … I could go on

      • Let the Truth be Told says:

Trump is far from a racist. The truth is, Biden can easily be called that. Let’s remember his comment about not allowing his kids to be bused with minorities and his reasoning. Disgusting. However, the liberal unchecked media did little to report on this.
Trump’s job was to clean up the swamp in DC. Created by tax and spend liberals for decades. The radical left never accepted that he was the duly elected POTUS and created underhanded drivel of Russian collusion that was dismissed and proven wrong at every turn. I pity the U.S. for electing such a poor candidate as Joe Biden. He will be lead to the slaughter by radical left.
Now will continual unrest in the U.S. as the Dems will reap what they sewed. They deserve no less.

        • vip says:

OH PLEASE SHUT UP. Trump is the worst President ever. How could he support this man. Marcus keep up the good work and bury the OBA in a deeper hole. You fools never learn. The PLP didn’t win those elections….. supporters like this in your party gave the elections away. The Milk Man must be holding his head in shame knowing this man sits in the same room as him.

      • Ja says:

White Supremacist at it’s best in this party!!!!!!!!!

      • Portia says:

Trump is neither racist nor misogynistic. He has done more for the black community than Joe Biden ever did in 47 years. Trump has dramatically improved the financial position of the black community in rising employment, rising homeownership, etc, he has permanently funded HBCUs which Obama/ Biden never did. Biden has shown nothing but contempt for the black community, from stating that he didn’t want blacks attending schools with his children because it would create a jungle, to saying that blacks aren’t diverse the way Hispanics are (among many other disgusting comments). Trump also appointed a majority female-led press team long before Biden planned to.

You are mistaken about Israel, he has not added fuel to the fire, he has brokered numerous peace deals throughout the region with multiple countries and received international acclaim for it. Palestine is not happy because they realize that the region is moving on from their strong-arm tactics and has had enough of it, they are quickly isolating themselves due to their own actions.

BTW, no one needs to demonise the media, they do a good enough job of it on their own, because they cannot be fair and truthful and have overtly demonstrated their bias. Thank goodness people are turning off CNN.

        • sandgrownan says:

Bwwahahaha…all Jared did was get countries that were not at war with Israel, and had not been at war with Israel to sign something saying they were not at war with Israel.

          Not racist? Not misogynistic? ….riiiiight.

      • JAYBIRD says:

Why is being pro life appalling?
I guess killing babies is considered the moral high ground for you?

        • sandgrownan says:

Ask me to show you a person with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, who is repugnant, sadistic, twisted, creepily obsessed with other people’s sex lives and genitalia, and I’ll show you a “pro-lifer”.

      • LOL - the real LOL says:

Yes, you should go on… Tell me about Slick Willie, his life, his pardons. Does the name Marc Rich ring a bell? Have you ever seen photos of the former Mrs. Rich? Super hot! How many times did she visit Slick in the White House before the pardon of her ex-husband?

How about all those women who said that Slick sexually harassed them? Do Jennifer Flowers & Paula Jones ring a bell? What about poor Monica!

Tell me about all of the drug dealers Barry pardoned, the releasing of $100+ BILLION to the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, Iran. Tell me how Barry abandoned America’s allies in the Middle East. How about the bombing of Libya?

How is it even possible that Barry had a 90%+ favorable media coverage and President Trump had a negative 90%+? No favoritism there whatsoever, right?

    • Just One says:

So true, all they heard was “I support Trump” not “I endorse the policies of the current President that promotes defending the unborn, moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and promoting religious freedom. I realise that in a world that we live in today, it takes courage to stand up for what you believe in especially when it is unpopular.”

Kudos to Mr. Jones for standing firm in what he believes in. God uses us all to fulfill his divine will, even Trump…

  2. Slap that says:

Wow OBA! You really slapped that leader in the face and it’s not about you! Everyone has a right to free speech and who are you to suppress it? It’s called a democracy! Even if we are wrong we are still entitled to our opinion!

  3. Red Pill says:

You are not afraid to tell it like it is, it shows that you are awake. Good for you Senator Jones.

  4. Red Pill says:

President Trump has done so much for the US and the democrats are trying to destroy the US. Trump could find a cure for cancer and the lunatic left will still criticize & hate him all dictated by the media with a lot of lies.

  5. frank says:

the senator should have kept his thoghts to himself

  6. Unbelievable says:

    2 things here:

    1. Is Mr. Jones even American? If not, why is he supporting a foreign politician?
    2. Mr. Jones is clearly a religious man. Ok fine but Trump is as far away from religion as one can get. The man is 110% amoral.

  7. 2020 Won says:

It’s truly scary to see that the OBA isn’t even embarrassed enough by this clown to disown him.

If this is the type of intellectual and moral leadership that the OBA attracts in its candidates, Bermuda really doesn’t have many options does it?

  8. Mr. Jones, Stand for what you Believe and what your conviction is from Almighty God, Because before it is all said and done, The Deep State Will Go Down and The Swamp Will Be Cleaned.

It’s amazing how so many are being bewitched at this hour and can’t see past their noses to spite their face.

I make no bones about it, that I don’t agree with Mr. Jones about a lot of things, but on this issue about President Donald J. Trump. I support the President Donald J. Trump. The incoming President an his Vice, will sell America out and they are on their way to become a Communist Country if this happens, and the Western Hemisphere will pay dearly for this if it happens.

    • Unbelievable says:

Lol there is no deep state. And if there was one, you’re handing them a victory with this post.

    • CHRIS says:

Don’t make me holla bye! Trump IS THE SWAMP…. the swampiest of the swapiest Paul Manafort and Roger J. Stone Jr., both sentenced GUILTY ,Charles Kushner, the father of the president’s son-in-law GUILTY and the list goes on… it’s all for everyone to see thier crimes… if you have difficulty reading, watch American Greed… they’re all there! And the only person flirting with Communism is Trump himself… his nose is so far up Putin’s ass he can tell you what Putin ate for lunch.

  9. pamela says:

Hey…Jones..showing your true colours. Surely, most born Bermudians will not forget this one. Ha!!!

  10. To The Cows Come Home says:

In the least Mr. Jones has been forthright, honest and unafraid to share where he stands. It would be helpful if all of our former Premiers on both sides would tell us where they stand on this – but I have a feeling we’ll be waiting to the cows come home before that ever happens.

    • hmmm says:

Funny thing is the OBA left him out to dry his own soiled pants. They will never side with you Trump supporters in their party. Not in public that is :)

      • To The Cows Come Home says:

Who said I was a Trump supporter? I certainly never did and just as certainly am not. And the only time I ever voted OBA was 2012… but in the end, you captured my point – Mr. Jones got thrown under the milk truck. I’ve my suspicions as to where its owner stands.

  11. Open Minded says:

The things Trump says, other politicians do and worse all the time (they’re just not stupid enough to say it as Trump does). Look at Hilary Clinton. Most wanted her as the FIRST female US president. The Haitians have yet to receive their millions of dollars from the Clinton Foundation (funds they raised for Haitians!!!!). To me, she’s far worse than Trump… hopefully Biden is better than all… we’ll see. Regarding the issue of the Reverend, religion shouldn’t play a part in politics but we see it all the time… even in Bermy!

  12. PBanks says:

I think there’s not much the OBA can do here. Individuals are entitled to their own thoughts and opinions, and despite the prevailing sentiment in Bermuda about how “good” Trump has been, the OBA couldn’t do anything to boost their image (low as it is) with regard to Mr Jones’s comments.

Of course this is ammo that the PLP can tuck away for later, such is the nature of Bermuda politics and knowing that Trump is unpopular here.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

It seems the majority of people posting would deny Sen. Jones any right to voice his opinion. That is a sad thing.

I recall the late Julian Hall M.P. quoting Voltaire in the House of Assembly and I will repeat what he said, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”

  13. sage says:

    Good riddance to Benedict Donald.

  14. Unbelievable says:

Lol if anyone needs any reminder of how amoral and useless Trump is and how much normalcy and decency is coming back to the WH with Biden:

    • Haters says:

Oh it HAS to be true if it’s on Youtube!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL

      • Unbelievable says:

If can’t see that this rich and entitled fool has a failed presidency, that’s your problem because the evidence is all around you. Good riddance to him.

  15. Fisherman says:

Has anyone wondered how many others locally are Trump supporters. I know 5 and they are not like him.

  16. Red Pill says:

Senator Jones they are trying to make you a victim of McCarthyism.

  17. St. Davids says:

Red pill? Deep state? How many QAnon koolaid drinkers are in our midst?

    • Joe Bloggs says:

1 is 1 too many … but we know they are here from the planned anti-mask march that did not happen in the end
