Bologna, Codfish & Oil Reduce, Baby Food Up
Over a ten-year period, the food with the greatest percentage increase was baby food — which increased 90% — while the only items with price reductions from 2010 to 2019 were codfish and cooking oil.
This is according to the recently released Bermuda Digest of Statistics, which provides figures up to and including 2019.
The document said, “Food and non-alcoholic beverage retail prices rose for 37 of the 46 selected items during the past year. Sugar had the largest price percentage increase while bologna had the largest percentage decrease year-to-year. Over the ten-year period, the greatest percentage increase was for baby food. Codfish and cooking oil were the only items with price reductions from 2010 to 2019. ”
According to charts in the document, as seen below, bologna, chicken legs, lamb leg, codfish and stewing beef all declined in price from 2018 – 2019, while foods with the largest price increase during that same time include sugar, butter, potatoes, corn niblets, margarine and tea bags.
Looking at the 2010 – 2019 time frame, baby food increased 90% [from $1.28 to $2.43], corn niblets went up 81%, butter increased 71%, raisins went up 63%, while bacon went up 55%.
All grocery store owners are smashing the Bermuda consumer! I’m times of hardship they offer 15% discount BUT markup products by 15% so they are actually not losing one penny! Crooks!
Hmmmm I thought the government was promising pruces ould go down?
Where are the Co-ops that were talked about two or three years ago.?
