All Whitney Middle School Students Test Negative

March 20, 2021

All students at Whitney Institute Middle School “were tested and all results came back negative,” Premier David Burt said.

Last night, Premier David Burt tweeted, “There is a lot going on in Bermuda, especially with the coronavirus. Most of the news recently is negative, but there is some positive news. Yesterday all students at Whitney Middle School were tested & all results came back negative. Thanks to the teams for their hard work.”

Whitney is one of six schools the Government has issued advisories about potential Covid-19 exposure in, with notices issued for Purvis Primary, Devonshire Preschool, Paget Primary School, Whitney Institute Middle School, Northlands Primary School and Dellwood Middle School.

The Bermuda Union of Teachers [BUT] has said they are “closely monitoring the most recent wave of Covid-19 cases in some schools” and said that “in the event that this current wave is not arrested and cases continue to rise” they “will be seeking more comprehensive action, which will include the possibility of a return to remote learning.”

The Government previously advised that Cabinet will convene this morning [March 20] to “consider the current outbreak and to decide whether any further action is necessary to mitigate the current outbreak,” and there will be a release on Saturday afternoon with “the announcement of any decisions made by the Cabinet.”

Don’t celebrate too much – these students tested negative AT THE TIME OF THE TEST. Remember a test is a “snapshot in time.” Will they be tested again up through 14 days?
