Cabinet Will Convene To Discuss Outbreak

March 19, 2021

The Cabinet will convene on Saturday morning [March 20] to “consider the current outbreak and to decide whether any further action is necessary to mitigate the current outbreak,” and there will be a release on Saturday afternoon with “the announcement of any decisions made by the Cabinet.”

This comes as the island has experienced a surge in confirmed Covid-19 cases with over 30 new cases in just the past three days; 6 new today, 18 new yesterday, with 7 new cases the day prior to that.

The cases are impacting schools, with the Government issuing advisories about potential Covid-19 exposure in six different schools; Purvis Primary, Devonshire Preschool, Paget Primary School, Whitney Institute Middle School, Northlands Primary School and Dellwood Middle School over the past few days.

In releasing the test results tonight, the Government said, “Following the receipt of testing results from Friday’s testing, the Cabinet will convene tomorrow morning to consider the current outbreak and to decide whether any further action is necessary to mitigate the current outbreak to ensure that Bermuda’s vaccination programme can continue unabated. There will be a release on Saturday afternoon with further testing results and the announcement of any decisions made by the Cabinet.”

A look at the increase in our active cases, with the island now having 52 active cases:

Earlier this week, Health Minister Kim Wilson had urged everyone to follow the guidelines to prevent transmission.

“With the recent surge of confirmed positive COVID cases on the island, we must do our part to reduce the risk of sustained community transmission that could overwhelm our healthcare system and halt our economic recovery,” the Minister said earlier this week.

“I strongly urge everyone to act responsibly and do what is right for our family and our community to avoid having the Government implement stricter measures.”

“Follow the guidelines and avoid parties and any gathering of more than 25 people in attendance – indeed, avoid smaller gatherings too, if the attendees are not part of your normal “bubble”. Continue to wear your mask, practice hand hygiene, and physically distance.

“Avoid the three ‘Cs’ – closed spaces with poor ventilation, crowded places with many people nearby, and close-contact settings such as close-range conversations – six feet must be maintained at all times, including greetings.”

  1. Wahoo says:

Lockdown baby. Thank you party people, you really are better than everyone else.

  2. Question ? says:

How many of these cases are as a result of the football teams trip to Florida to have an off island training session and practice game? The word circulating is a lot of them. Can you please inquire? It was definitely non-essential travel, it wasn’t a qualifier!!! These unnecessary trips with non vaccinated teams could abs are putting our entire economy in jeopardy.

    • sandgrownan says:

Perhaps also disclose who had the party in St. Davids? We all know of course, because we’ve seen the video. Will The Emperor say publicly what we all know and take appropriate action?

      Burt the Coward.

      • trufth says:

Do tell, sounds like you know something we don’t. Or are you just talking big?

    • Naturals says:

Didn’t come from the footballers travelling… “IT” was already here…

      • Question ? says:

So the 4 who tested positive on the return flight but negative when they left for Florida, got it here or there?

  3. imjustsaying says:

What curfew or lockdown that doesn’t work. SMH!

  4. Red Pill says:

    How many are false positives?

  5. Vaughn Foggo says:

An earlier curfew should be implemented , maybe 10 pm to 5 am.

  6. Kenny ‘YPlaySolo’ Foggo says:

While the Burt guy continuously puts us on lockdowns and curfew… those of us who follow rules, etc and are still trying to make a living get cut short… but his ‘B’ ‘A’ and Kim Swan’s ‘B’ ‘A’ still get paid their full salaries…
Are they gonna pay our bills when we come up short??? No!!

  7. In Mark's Opinion says:

I am very much upset with the people of Bermuda who have fell for the propaganda (the art of selling lies) over the past year. Do people even think for themselves anymore or believe their five senses anymore or just believe this manufactured evil by the media and these politicians. Who has ever had the common cold or the flu without any symptoms? We are told one of the symptoms of Covid 19 is to have no symptoms. The world is being turned upside down
People are being arrested for having more than 25 people over having fun, enjoying life and breathing the same air and people applaud it and say lock them up.
We the people need stand together in love and get our Island back up running. We could become freedom Island and not lockdown Island like some want.

    • Unbelievable says:

      Delusional.

    • Cotton Wool Brigade says:

Thanks for having the courage to say all this. Take comfort in knowing you’re not alone in your thinking.

  8. Wing nut says:

Instead of all the hot air talk, start charging people make examples. Obviously people not worried about consequences.
    All that hot air talk

  9. Fine and or Community Service says:

Simple, $2500-$5000 fine. If they can’t afford it, then 2500 hours of community service. There’s lots of things that these negligent individuals can be doing to help this community & economy. Why should the ones doing what they should be doing, suffer at the hands of the disrespectful ones? If we don’t get serious about penalties, we will continue to have more of the same.
