Advisory: Speed Camera Violations Scam Email

“Residents should be wary of a misleading email currently in circulation that claims the recipient has been caught on a speed camera and is required to pay a fine,” the police said today.

A police spokesperson said, “Once again the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] is urging members of the public to remain vigilant regarding scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data. In particular, local residents should be wary of a misleading email currently in circulation that claims the recipient has been caught on a speed camera and is required to pay a fine.

“Such requests for money and/or personal information via unsolicited correspondence should be ignored and any links contained in similar emails should not be clicked,” the police said.

“The public is reminded that personal information such as dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers and banking details are valuable and that this information should never be passed over the internet [including social media], phone or by post to unknown persons.

“To report any incidents of suspected fraud, please call the Financial Crime Unit on 247-1757. A report can also be made via the BPS Community Reporting Portal at https://portal.police.bm. In addition, advice on how to avoid and report scams can be found here.”

    this place too small for all this nonsense to begin with, sad enough people can barely afford to put food on their tables. fix the roads, improve the cost of living, give the youth something to hope for instead of all these control control control. If u didnt have them then no one would be trying scam people, have people living in fear all the damn time.
