Virtual Ag Show Postponed Due To Rise In Covid

Citing “the rise of positive Covid-19 cases” and the “large number of schools having to quarantine,” the organisers said that the 2021 Virtual Ag Show will be postponed.

A spokesperson said, “Due to the rise of positive coronavirus cases on the island, coupled with the large number of schools having to quarantine, the AG Show Ltd. Committee has decided to postpone the 2021 Virtual Ag Show on a date to be determined.

“Originally set to be broadcast live on Friday, April 23rd, the first ever Virtual Ag Show event was brought about to showcase local produce and artwork by Bermuda’s students, as well as a wide range of animal exhibits.

“Sponsored by Axis Capital, the event is made possible with the help of numerous other local sponsors and volunteers.”

Antwan Albuoy, Exhibition Director, said, “The Agricultural Show is one of Bermuda’s most iconic events and has brought together residents and locals alike since the 1920s to celebrate the island’s unique heritage and talent.

“While the rise in positive coronavirus cases has made it impossible to proceed with the event on the original Friday, April 23rd date, we have decided to postpone the event rather than cancel it.

“In recent months, we have heard from many teachers and the recurring message from them is preparing exhibits and entries has been a welcome distraction for school children, providing them with a glimmer of hope in what has otherwise been a bleak time for many.”

The spokesperson said, “Taking place at a future date this spring, it is hoped the Virtual Ag Show will help to keep local culture and traditions alive for people young and old.

“The Ag Show Committee has asked that members of the public do not deliver any art work to the Bermuda Society of Arts in City Hall, as it is currently closed. AG Show Ltd. will advise the various educational institutions where and when the judging of the art work will take place.
