Premier On Possible ‘Roadmap To Reopening’
Noting that it is if “all of the data metrics allow” and “we are successful in continuing to reduce local transmission,” the Premier said that “it is envisioned Phase 2 can commence on Sunday May 9th” and “we would be able to progress to Phase 3 on June 6th.”
Speaking during tonight’s [April 25] National Address, Premier Burt said, “Following the 7 day Stay at Home Order, this past Tuesday we commenced Phase 1 of 3 on our Roadmap to Reopening. This current phase, when combined with 7 day stay at home order, will be for a total of four weeks.
“If the data allows, it is envisioned Phase 2 can commence on Sunday May 9th, Mother’s Day. Phase 2 will see the end of restrictions on household mixing, as well as reopening of schools, leisure facilities, churches, gyms, outdoor dining and limited personal care services.

“Due to our desire to eliminate local transmission, there will be continued restrictions on activities, gathering sizes and a curfew will remain in place during this time. The Government will continue to provide financial support to businesses and individuals who are directly affected by the restrictions.
“Provided that we are successful in continuing to reduce local transmission, and all of the data metrics allow, after four weeks in Phase 2 we would be able to progress to Phase 3 on June 6th.
“This will permit the reopening of all other businesses which were not opened in the previous phase. A determination on the need to continue the curfew and other restrictions such as gathering sizes will be based on the data at that time.
“June 6th will also be the date that the 14 day supervised quarantine for all non-immunised travellers comes into place. If all goes well following the commencement of Phase 3, and we are successful in eliminating local case transmission through compliance with restrictions and increased vaccinations, the Public Health emergency will be allowed to expire on June 24.
“But the end of the Public Health Emergency in Bermuda is up to all of us as a community,” the Premier added.

Pathetic Burt. Pandering, political, gutless.
The issue is not with unvaccinated visitors, but with the fact we are stalling at vaccination numbers that aren’t even close to getting what we need. Bermudians, us, we are the issue.
What are you doing about that?
Free taxi rides won’t do it, how will you get Bermuda vaccinated David?
The document states “There will be appropriate exceptions from supervised quarantine for minors and the medically vulnerable.” What does this mean? Does it mean no quarantine for kids or does it mean UNsupervised quarantine for kids? It’s an important difference if we want any tourists with kids to visit Bermuda this year.
So no tourists with children under 16 will be coming here? For how long will we be banning family holidays?
I guess we are now one of those “adults only” islands? Hedonism Resorts.
That’s not what I’m saying. Just saying it’s currently unclear and needs clarifying as if we want tourists to come we need clarity on rules. It’s currently clear for adults but not children. What does “appropriate” exceptions mean – does it mean no quarantine if pre-arrival and day 1 test is negative, does it mean 4 days quarantine, does it mean 14 days quarantine but unsupervised rather than supervised? Anything other than the first will put people off coming if they have kids.
1st of all, I wasn’t talking to you, I was just making a statement. This seems pretty clear to me: we will not be a family friendly destination this summer. Children under 16 will have to quarantine but not in a govt hotel room by themselves. They will quarantine in their family hotel room which will deter families from coming here with children under 16.
“I guess we are now one of those “adults only” islands? Hedonism Resorts.”
No, you’re not.
You’re still a racist, homophobic, boring little rock with pink sand.
June 6, six weeks from now, and new restrictions are imposed on non immunized travelers. Six weeks too late, why not now? Then 3 weeks later on June 24 the Public Emergency will expire which controls all these restrictions. That will only allow for 3 weeks of restrictions to magically control the spread of Covid.
Bermuda certainly is another world. Coincidental that just happens to be around the time of cruise ships homeporting and has nothing to do with data or science.
This is a lame attempt to take the focus off of the real issue which is Bermudians are not getting vaccinated. This address paints the picture that it is also ok to not get vaccinated, and if you choose to not get the shots then just be smart about getting tested etc. Come on mate.. Not good enough. It’s the Wild West out there right now. People driving and riding like idiots, not following basic guidelines and there is no sense of responsibility. Why should I feel more pressure and financial stress so these bies get a pass?? Who feels it knows it.
Ah, well, nail hit firmly on the head. The vaccination rate appears to have stalled, those of us vaccinated are essentially punished because of the “tin-foil hat” brigade and there’s a reluctance to address the sniffling, lungs full of fluid elephant in the room.
Until now.
God Emperor Burt has finally acknowledged this obliquely for travellers. That there is a difference between the vaccinated and plague rats. Time to make the next step and address those in our own community, Bermudians, who are prolonging this situation.
Vaccine only restaurants, sports, tour boats, bars, any private entity should require a vaccine for entry. Insurance rates should increase for anyone refusing (on a point of principle) to be vaccinated, whether it’s COVID, measles or mumps. Why do the rest of us have to subsidise stupidity?
What an absurd comment. Vaccinated people can spread Covid as well.
Facts are facts and you can choose to side step them but you cannot put forward your own version of facts.
To encourage businesses to preclude entry based on whether one is vaccinated or not is ridiculous given that both the vaccinated and the non vaccinated can spread the virus.Clearly you are not a business owner as you would realize how absurd it would be to treat 40% of the population lepers. Enjoy your monthly guaranteed pay cheque. Others have to actually earn it.
You need to do some more research, a simple google search would be a good place to start.
The fact is this, at the start of the global vaccination program it wasn’t known conclusively if those that were vaccinated could carry COVID. While it appear that it is possible, the likelihood is significantly low, and the reality is that the viral load is so low that the vaccinated are extremely unlikely to spread the virus. Each passing day seems to support that view.
This view is shared by the CMO, and clearly by the Emperor given his willingness to treat travellers differently.
So, yeah, quite willing to treat those that choose not to be vaccinated differently.
Your stupidity is LOUD and CLEAR…we’ll done
See response above. Do some more research.
…and your ignorance is painfully obvious…ask a child to explain it to you.
Excuse me?? It is ok for people to not get vaccinated you tyrant!! I dare you to try to force us or make us second class citizens . We have done nothing against the law and you can’t make it law either. And if he does then we are a true dictatorship country. Look out because the sh$t will hit the fan because we the unvaccinated will not tolerate this discrimination form people like you
It’s not discrimination. Private businesses do not have to serve plague rats. Simple.
Do you wear a seatbelt?
What about my right to drive home from the pub pissed?
Why should I suffer further restrictions because people refuse to be vaccinated?
Stop typing boy/girl you look foolish again.
LOL… And you have the gull to call others stupid. Driving under the influence is already illegal so no it’s not within your rights. Why are you creating strawman arguments?
ops , be careful when accusing others of being stupid .
The word is ‘Gall’ not ‘gull’ , and don’t blame it on auto correct either !
It illustrates the point. Why am i not allowed to drive pissed? Answer that honestly.
Then, extrapolate that to the current public health crisis if you are able.
“And you have the gull to call others stupid. ”
But, you ARE stupid…you prove it in every post.
LOL@you!
Face facts, not all Bermudians and residents are going to get vaccinated. Hospital needs to adjust just as they did when our population became obese and diabetic – our hospital pivoted and is now able to provide dialysis to more people per capita than anywhere in the world. Sad fact about our obesity problem. Dedicate more beds to covid patients and go from there.
What other choice do we have? We can’t force people to inject themselves with an experimental drug.
TWO MORE MONTHS??!!??!!
This is ridiculous.
This is not ridiculous, this is the price we pay for some of us not following the rules. 24 deaths, 12 of them this month.
Blame the Bermudians who can’t follow rules and those that refuse to get vaccinated.
Solution for people who don’t want to get vaccinated – higher health care premiums and a public tax. You can make the choice, but it should not come without a cost.
On another point, if any anti-vaccine people are reading this – have you considered the fact that all of the wealthiest people, including and especially some of the very people who have pushed anti-vaccine theories, have gotten it? The talking heads who stand to profit off of division are protecting themselves, but they’re perfectly happy to feed your anger.
And if this was just some big hoax for the governments of the world to gain control – what would be the point? People do a perfectly good job of staying in line themselves as long as they have access to leisure. If they really wanted to control you, the pubs would be open.
Solution for you. Wait for the stupidity vaccine to come out so you don’t sound quite so daft.
Why are we waiting until June 6th to increase restrictions on non-immunized travellers? Now would make sense if we are listening to the science and common sense!! Come on David, cut the excuses and make the decision that will actually help protect Bermuda
Vaccinated and non vaccinated should have the same rules and regulations.
We all have a choice. There are people who, after doing research, have decided not to get vaccinated. They have based their decision on their interpretation of their research. Who, apart from a higher being, has the right to say that their way and their interpretation of what hundreds of scientists say is better than someone else’s?
The Bermuda Government is wrong to put draconian measures in place now, after 14 months, to punish those who chose differently from the Government recommendations.
It’s a public health issue.
Can i drive home pissed? Why not? Please can I..it’s my choice surely?
Nope. Absolutely not.
Why don’t we offer a free cruise to anyone who gets the vaccine? That would probably cost less than all the payments to civil servants sitting on their rears earning a paycheque for another 2 months. Half of our working population are quite content to keep these restrictions in place.
Where we are failing is that we have a significant part of the population who seem to be brainwashed by some people who don’t have much medical training, into not appreciating the pros and cons of getting vaccinated. The decision on whether to get the shot should be based on balancing the benefits versus the downsides of both actions.
The vaccine stops people from getting unwell when contracting the virus and renders them much less likely to spread it to others. The cons from getting the vaccine are exceedingly rare and mild. We all know how deadly the virus can be; short and long term.
With the new strains being so infectious, I feel that everyone will eventually either get the virus or the vaccine. I chose the vaccine. Not a difficult choice. Is it possible that the vaccine may not always be available for those who choose now not to get it? There are many people in other countries who are dying to get it!
username checks out.
Based on this latest blurt it would appear that a side effect of covid is to impair ones ability for rational thought!
Saw 2 tourist at bus terminal yesterday without the yellow wrist bands on. Weeks ago, 4 tourists were on the bus and were wearing yellow wrist bands.
Also, is PTB no longer having buses sanitized at the bus terminal? Quite a few people noticed there was no ine wiping the buses down with cleanser and one cloth for one bus.
From my vantage point, it just keeps snowing in Bermuda. Bermudians are flooded daily with metrics except for the critical benchmark. There are no metrics cited to declare an “all clear.” None of my advisors has a clue.
We are just winging it and spinning it daily like every other government in the world. We will never admit to failure because it is easier to keep pushing more and more restrictive measures. Our paychecks are electronically deposited and keep on coming.
The Brazilian variant, not to sound racist, is rampant through the US state of Michigan, whose Governor’s draconian measures have failed over and over. Why are residents from the state of Michigan not banned from Bermuda?
Why are used masks not considered biohazards and disposed of accordingly? Did you notice the social distancing signs that say 6 Feet/2 Meters? (6 feet is 1.8288 meters) We cannot even get the simple math right! BTW, the 6 feet number pushed by the CDC was a wild guess from the start.
Is any store running a sale on Grecian Formula? This job is greying me prematurely.
