BBA Awaiting Permission For Cycling Race
“We continue to await that permission letter from Government permitting us to run the event,” the Bermuda Bicycle Association said in reference to the 2021 Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race, which traditionally takes place on Bermuda Day.
A statement included in the Bermuda Bicycle Association newsletter said, “While much work has been done on this event since last week, we continue to await that permission letter from Government permitting us to run the event. We will continue to work in anticipation that the golden ticket will arrive shortly.
“Once we are given the green light we will open registration on www.RaceDayWorld.com. There is no qualification process for the race this year but, as always, riders will have to be members of the BBA in order to register.
“In short, there will be races leaving at 8:15 on Friday, May 28 from St. George for Open Men, Open Women, Junior Men and Junior Women. With the same start time but from Middle Road in Devonshire there will be a youth race for riders 12-14 and an 11 & Under category. This latter category will be administered by Anton Gilbert and it will be at his discretion whether to allow a rider into the race.
“The race course will follow the traditional route from Bermuda’s first capital to Hamilton and then to the finish on Cedar Avenue. There will be no podium ceremony this year.
“With the clock continuing to count down we can only suggest that riders keep their ears and eyes open and as soon as we have word to proceed we can start the registration process. Think positive!”
