Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race On May 28th

May 25, 2021

The Bermuda Bicycle Association’s annual Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race will take place this Friday, May 28th, as a part of the Bermuda Day holiday celebration.

A spokesperson said, “The BBA has received and exemption from the Ministry of National Security to hold this event in our usual format which will be a separate start for men and women in St. George, and then a youth race which covers the last last two miles of the course into and through Hamilton.

“Racing action will kick off at 8:15am from the old town for the men and then the women start approximately three minutes later.  The youth event will also start at 8:15 and makes its way along Middle Road to Reid Street, then on Court Street and Front Street to Queen Street.  At the Church Street the race turns right and then the final left turn onto Cedar Avenue for the finish between Dundonald and Elliott Streets.

“The last edition of the race was in 2019 when Kaden Hopkins and Caitlin Conyers won their respective divisions.  As neither will be on island this Friday the door is open to a new winner.

“This year the BBA will be streaming both the men’s and women’s races live on their Facebook page.  Commentary will be provided by Greg Hopkins and Julia Hawley and the production is coordinated by Kamryn Minors.

“The BBA is delighted to have the opportunity to continue this Bermud Day tradition and pleased that Minister Ernest Peets will be joining us in the lead vehicle to experience the race from an exciting angle.”
