Video: BIU Press Conference On Bus Situation
The Bermuda Industrial Union [BIU] President Chris Furbert is holding a press conference this morning [Aug 20] regarding the bus service. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
Update: The live broadcast has concluded and the 20-minute replay is below
I am still not understanding the situation with the BIU and the rosters. If we are going to modernization the bus service then changes need to be made and hard discussions agreed to.
Maybe we do not need 149 employees as fewer and fewer people are riding the bus for being inconsistent and ineffective and unreliable.
The population changes and more homes built in various areas of the country but yet again revised bus schedule to accommodate such has not been produced in almost 20 years at a cost of about 2.5 million.
I hope drivers did not get paid for three days but got paid for Thursday. We as taxpayers should know this information.
It seems as if the drivers have more power than the people of this country.
On this issue the Union has a strong point. Once the BIU and the Government came to an agreement which was later ratified by the Membership. The matter concerning the two parties is resolved. Now the BPSU and the Government where at an impass, hence the Minister of Labour should have sent this matter alone to arbitration.
