Famous: ‘Criticisms Without Suggesting A Plan’

August 24, 2021

“Almost like clockwork Michael Dunkley is offering up criticisms and negativity without actually suggesting an alternative plan to keep Bermudians safe and our economy open,” PLP MP Christopher Famous said.

This follows after Mr Dunkley said the “imposition of SafeKey by the Government has created another divide” as “while a well intended government policy” it “once again penalizes those businesses that have borne the brunt of Covid policies over the past 18 months.”

Mr Famous said, “If MP Dunkley wants to scrap SafeKey, what do he and the OBA suggest the Government replace it with? Do they believe we should require everyone to wear masks all the time when indoors?

“Do they believe that, with the highly contagious Delta variant circulating in Bermuda, that we should scrap the mask mandate completely putting our entire community and our health system at risk?

“SafeKey and testing is being fine tuned as a sensible middle ground that leverages technology to help businesses stay open whilst simultaneously protecting the health of Bermudians and our healthcare system.

“It’s clear that Michael Dunkley of the One Bermuda Alliance [OBA], continues to put politics over people’s lives. The public needs to remember that had we followed the advice of the OBA with doing away with Travel Authorization and quarantines, Bermuda would be in the exact same position or worse, as the other countries that lowered their guard. These countries are now witnessing significant Covid-19 spikes, full hospitals, curfews, lockdowns and avoidable deaths.”

“The SafeKey and testing will protect our healthcare system, help our businesses avoid closure due to a client who tested positive, and keep all Bermudians safe.”

    LOL!!

Firstly, the PLP got back into power by criticizing without suggesting. And funny enough, they’re now implementing what they criticized!

So bc I got the jab 6mths ago, I’m “safe” and can get safe-key. The data (as the premier loves to claim to follow) clearly shows a vaccinated person can just as easily spread the Delta variant and they show less symptoms!! Yet this vaccinated person gets the same allowances as the person who tested negative within 3 days. Right.

  4. sandgrownan says:

Here’s a plan Famous, penalise the unvaccinated.

    • Toodle-oo says:

      I have another plan.
Figure out why investment confidence in Bermuda plummeted after the last election and work on this critical debt situation in a way that doesn’t affect the cost of living any more.

      • sandgrownan says:

        Don’t disagree with that.

“…why investment confidence in Bermuda plummeted after the last election…”

things I look for when investing ;-) ~

Mission – what are the future goals/plans

Leadership – is is strong, reliable, able to get results

Team – are they cohesive, willing to do the work

Cash Flow – how are the finances be handled

Communications – how they are able to get messages out and through

Systems/Infrastructure – are things kept in working order

Legal Affairs – are things above board

Product – what actually is being sold and my ROI(return on investment)

I do not speak for all but Bermuda lacks STABILITY :-(

  5. Bright and Early says:

I am vaccinated but wear my mask, stay away from crowds and sanitize regularly maybe 10 times a day. I am a senior and have a few health problems but I am trying to stay healthy. I even take zinc for my immune system to help. Hope everyone stays well and be safe Bermuda

  6. Unbelievable says:

Ugh it’s MPs like this that make me hate politics.

  7. B4Premier says:

Doesn’t feel so nice when the other person does it back to you, does it?

  8. Boston Whaler Owner says:

    deluded,nothing changes.

  9. Unbelievable says:

Also, it’s really rich of PLP MP Famous to moan about Dunkley not having a plan.

Ain’t you part of the ruling party??? Where’s that plan? Hardly any of the 2017 election promises have never materialized and now here we are in 2021 after a snap election which was all about adding another two years of power (instead of 2022) AND THERE IS STILL NO PLAN.

Where is gaming? No where. But I see the offices are being gutted by workmen.
Where is marijuana legalization? No where.

    Where is the PLP plan????

  10. Ringmaster says:

Basically he is saying we, the PLP, have no clue what to do and are begging the OBA to tell us. It’s the same for the economy and immigration, although now the PLP are proposing what the OBA had proposed before being shouted down.
Scary he is being paid a kings ransom as an MP. No accountability, no penalty for incompetence.

  11. LOL - the real one says:

The only plan that MP Famous has is taking power naps at taxpayer expense. Has he ever proposed any legislation in Parliament other than purchasing reclining chairs?

  12. Enough is Enough says:

Safe Keys is the best option offered up right now to keep people safe and businesses open. If Mr. Dunkley can highlight the negative side, then he should at least offer up an alternative option.

  13. Just Saying says:

Don’t care if OBA or PLP have a useful policy, in this case “SafeKey”.

I do think that the current implementation of SafeKey can be improved. As with the current Delta variant, vaccinated persons can still spread Covid, so it should ALSO be required for vaccinated persons to test before obtaining a SafeKey.

Thankfully, arriving vaccinated travelers are already being tested, however, there is still concern with the Day 4/Day 5 positive cases (only vaccinated persons are required to test on those days).

I wish everyone safe indoor dining etc. In the meantime, for unvaccinated persons, like myself, I recommend outdoor dining only. Please do not boycott restaurants as we are all in this together, so we should all continue to contribute to our already damaged economy.

  14. LOL (original) says:

Well if business leave a group out. Then like the French we should bring our food and sit down in front of it and eat. As far as I am concerned any business that leaves people out should be left out as well.

    LOL second class …wtf
