Henri Is Potential Threat, Watch Not In Effect

[Updated with video] Tropical Storm Henri – which was previously listed as a “threat to Bermuda” — is now a “potential threat to Bermuda”, the Bermuda Weather Service said, with its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hours has passed.

In addition, the Tropical Storm Watch is no longer in effect.

The latest forecast from the U.S. National Hurricane Center said, “At 500 AM AST [0900 UTC], the center of Tropical Storm Henri was located near latitude 30.1 North, longitude 65.7 West. Henri is moving toward the west near 8 mph [13 km/h]. A gradual turn to the west-northwest and Northwest by late Thursday is expected, followed by a turn to the northwest on Friday.

“Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph [100 km/h] with higher gusts. Little change in strength if forecast through Thursday. However, Henri could still become a hurricane by the weekend.

“Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles [130 km] from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 998 mb [29.47 inches].”
