Brown And Company Install Sensory Garden

September 23, 2021

Brown and Company Ltd. recently completed the installation of a new sensory/relaxation garden in the courtyard area of The Department of Child and Adolescent Services at the Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute.

A spokesperson said, “Brown and Company Ltd. is proud to have recently completed the installation of a new sensory/relaxation garden in the courtyard area of The Department of Child and Adolescent Services at the Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute as the main donor in a charitable effort.

“Last year marked the twentieth anniversary of Brown and Company Ltd. forming and incorporating. We wanted to mark this milestone with some sort of donation back to the community in which we have grown, and by happenstance were approached by Nurse Lisa Kalloo at the Child and Adolescent Services department of the Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute.

“At their facility in Devonshire, they have a courtyard garden which was rather run down and little used and Nurse Kalloo wanted to create an outdoor space; a sensory garden and relaxing space for the children, adolescents, their families and the staff at Child and Adolescent Services to use and enjoy.

“This fit the bill perfectly for Brown and Company, so we jumped on board. Our Poppy Brown designed the garden; the plans consisted of outdoor musical instruments, a converted sailing dingy play fixture, textured paving and concrete imprinting and mosaics, timber decking, benches, trellising, bamboo fence privacy screens and of course, plants.

“Flowering, aromatic, edible, and textured. We also managed the project from start to finish and have assisted in additional fundraising for it.

“Brown and Company carried out the installation with the labour and some materials donated by us to the amount of approximately $20,000. We also received generous donations from others in the community: Aberfeldy Nurseries, Brighton Nurseries, RHADC, Ocean Sails, The Committee of 25 and many of our customers.

“While we are extremely grateful to everyone involved and proud of the outcome so far, there are still some large cost items the garden could use in order to achieve the best possible result; percussion play instruments, outdoor mirrors and art, etc. and we would welcome anyone in the community who wishes to donate to please contact us.”

What a fabulous gesture Brown and Co. in creating this sensory garden at MAWI, at the Department of Adolescent and Child Services. Also a big thank you to Nurse Kalloo for his/her suggestion to create the sensory garden. Not only does it beautify the area it has specific functions for children and is a beautiful spot to relax. Poppy Brown you concepts are amazing. In this era of gloom and doom it is so nice to read positive news such as this. Brown and Co are unsung heroes as I know they were also instrumental in beautifying the area in front of the Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Building on Point Finger Road. Well done!

I totally agree with Pat. Perhaps Brown & Co could be asked to redo the Sensory Garden in the Botanical Gardens.
