Video: Nia Christopher Scores Another Goal
Bermuda’s Nia Christopher — who has already won two awards this week — continues her highly impressive form, scoring yet another goal for the Towson University women’s soccer team.
The school’s match report said, “Nia Christopher scored her seventh goal in as many games as the Towson University women’s soccer team shut out George Washington 1-0 to extend its unbeaten streak to four games.
“Towson [4-1-2] and GW [0-5-2] went back and forth in the first half, with Christopher netting a second chance shot in the 42nd minute to give the Tigers the lead at the break. The Tigers held the lead throughout the second half to earn the victory.
“Towson is unbeaten through its last four games for the first time under head coach Katherine Vettori. It is the first time Towson has won three straight games since Sept. 6-12, 2018.
“Phoebe Canoles got off a free kick following a GW yellow card, being saved by Machi. The two teams continued to push through the 31st minute, when a Nia Christopher shot missed left.
“With Jenna Blank entering the game, Towson attempted late pressure towards the box. A Blank shot was blocked, pushed back to Khori Banks then to Christopher for the close shot and score from the middle of the box, putting Towson up 1-0, the eventual halftime score.
“Christopher, the reigning College Soccer News National Player of the Week, nets her fifth goal in three games off three shots, assisted by Khori Banks and Jenna Blank. Phoebe Canoles led Towson in total shots with four, putting two on goal.
“Nia Christopher has eight goals in her young career, tying her with Jenna Blank as the career goals leader among current Towson student-athletes.”
