‘Significant Delays’ With Harbour Road Repairs

October 29, 2021

The Ministry of Public Works advised that “repairs to the section of Harbour Road located between Highwood Lane and Lover’s Lane in Paget continue to face significant delays.”

A Government spokesperson said, “Initial delays resulted from long stretches of bad weather, and the work permitted only during low ocean tides. Now over the last month, delays are resulting from a property dispute.

“The management team at Public Works are discussing the matter with the landowners, and following a resolution, the work is expected to continue.

“Despite the project delays, over 50% of the work is complete. The Ministry of Public Works apologises for any inconvenience and takes this opportunity to thank the motoring public for their patience and cooperation.”

  1. Will Bermuda tax payers who happen to pay for the government ever be told when Min Burch will return to work or if ever, or are the public to afraid to ask that question and let him continue to collect his Ministers salary while not working?

  2. Dunn juice says:

I guess if that letter to the editor wasn’t in the paper the other day we still would be left in limbo. Good PR govt, sort of matches the work ethic

  3. Rig says:

If W&E were a private company, this would have been completed months ago.

Sheer incompetence. Who would start a project without agreeing with the property owners?

Think of the thousands of hours wasted in Bermudian time.

    • iyiyi says:

Totally agree and typical of almost every project done by W&E.
Multiple times longer to complete and multiple times the cost to complete .

  4. Hey says:

How can a property dispute be holding up this? It’s a collapsed wall and road on the water side. It has been holding up traffic and affecting the lives of thousands of people negatively for nearly half a year. It sounds like someone is being very selfish, I may be wrong, but if correct shame on the individual. Bigger picture thinking please.

    • Toodle-oo says:

Don’t worry the story is out there. If it didn’t impact on so many people it would be kind of funny but in the end the cost of the wall is going to be even higher thanks to a lawsuit.

  5. Birdlegs says:

In addition to the wall fiasco why don’t they make Harbour Road a National Forest? The growth along that road is dangerous and a disgrace. The root systems are going to make it necessary to redo even more walls. Near the repair at the western end of Harbour Road even more wall is starting to collapse. Somebody in W & E needs to be fired for incompetence.

It’s North Shore Roundabout Part Duex.

You just know that no-one is accountable for this, at all.
