E-Monday Shopping Event For Local Retailers

November 24, 2021

Bermuda residents are invited to shop local online on Emonday — which will be held on November 29th — with the community urged “to partake of this opportunity to take advantage of exclusive deals and to support each other as the Island looks beyond the pandemic. ”

A BEDC spokesperson said, “eMonday was first launched in 2010 during Global Entrepreneurship Week as an online initiative aimed at encouraging residents to “Shop Local.” Its goal remains to support the development of local e-commerce business in Bermuda.

“eMonday 2021, slated for November 29th, is sponsored by the Department of Economic Development [EDD] and spearheaded by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation. The initiative’s main objective is to see as many e-tailers [online retail vendors] offer online deals to shoppers. All participating consumers will have to do is shop on those e-tailers’ sites.”

Ray Jones, EDD Director, said: “The EDD is happy to sponsor eMonday. We see it as another opportunity for us all to utilise technology in a way that allows it to power the local economy. If Global Entrepreneurship Week has shown us anything this year, it is that the pandemic continues to stir creativity and to inspire innovation in many ways, some of which can be unexpected, and most of which should be celebrated.”

“We are proud to have supported eMonday over the past years, knowing that e- Commerce is here to stay. This year we anticipate and encourage the participation of a larger-than- ever group of vendors and a wider range of offerings, on both the products and services sides.

“I’d like to encourage both the vendors and the community to partake of this opportunity to take advantage of exclusive deals and to support each other as the Island looks beyond the pandemic. Buy, sell, tag and post – and who knows what you might win!”

A spokesperson added, “Buyers are invited to visit www.eMonday.bm for a list of participating e-tailers and to find out about the products that are subject to eMonday deals. Vendors are encouraged to register, starting today, the online promotions that they have on www.eMonday.bm.”

“All participating consumers must do is #ChooseBermuda online on November 29th for a chance to win great prizes. For a list of participating eTailers you can visit the BEDC’s Local E-commerce Business Directory.

“Shoppers will be entered into a draw to win one of three $250 vouchers to be used at any of our participating eTailers. To be entered into the draw, shoppers are asked to upload their receipts or payment confirmations to our online form. All receipts will be entered into the draw and winners will be announced on Friday, December 3rd. Only transactions dated November 29th will be considered for the draw.

“Participating retail and service-based businesses will be required to accept orders online or accept orders online with the ability to provide full online payments. They will also have to offer one or more discount[s] or promotion[s] on eMonday. Additionally, they must use social media tools such as Facebook and Instagram to direct vendors to their sites prior to eMonday, using the #eMonday hashtag in their promotions.

“If you have a small business but do not have an online presence, then register to be a vendor on the BEDC’s virtual market ByBermuda. Log on to www.bybermuda.bm to sign up today.”

Erica Smith, BEDC Executive Director, said, “We are excited to launch ByBermuda in time for the holiday season. We know that supporting entrepreneurs by providing them with a low to no cost online platform can help them to increase sales and build their businesses.”
