Ashjuana Thomas Earns PSEA Excellence Award

Ashjuana Thomas Bermuda Dec 12 2021Ashjuana Thomas has been awarded the Public Service Excellence Award [PSEA] for the month of November, having been recognized for her outstanding work as Talent Management Partner for the Department of Employee and Organizational Development.

A Government spokesperson said, “The public will note that the PSEA’s is a programme that aims to encourage outstanding achievement and recognize Public Officers who are demonstrating admirable service delivery.

“Each month one individual or team within Government will be selected for their exemplary public service accomplished in the last 60 days.

“Ms. Thomas was tasked with developing a customized Service Standards Training Programme for the Government of Bermuda to facilitate the implementation of the new Service Standards Policy.

“The Service Standards Policy was developed to improve customer service and ensure consistency in service delivery throughout the Public Service. Ms. Thomas mentored the Cabinet Office Management Trainee and provided research support and general guidance during the early stages of the policy development process.”

Following policy approval, Ms. Thomas designed the Service Standards Training Programme. She produced a series of innovative training modules including an in-person training programme, a self-study digital module, and a self-study YouTube module, ensuring the programme would be accessible to all Public Officers.

“In addition, Ms. Thomas launched a campaign to recruit more than 30 Public Officers as volunteer Service Champions to assist Department Heads with delivering the Service Standards Training to all officers. She also worked with the Department of Communications’ CITV and Creative Services sections to produce video vignettes for the training programme.”

Premier David Burt said, “Congratulations on your outstanding performance, Ms. Thomas! We are honoured to have such a dynamic, creative and charismatic individual in the Public Service, and we thank you for modeling the Service Standards with passion and pride.”

Head of the Public Service, Dr. Derrick Binns added, “Ms. Thomas’s energy and enthusiasm for the subject matter is infectious. She has already delivered level training to the Public Service Executive and Heads of Departments, and it is expected that the training tools produced will be used by the Service Champions to deliver the Government of Bermuda Service Standards training to the rest of the Public Service.

“She has poured her heart and soul into this project, drawing on her customer service experience in the private sector to convey the message in a way that we expect will resonate with all public officers.”
