All Buses To Operate On Sunday Schedule

January 14, 2022

Due to a “recent increase in staff absences,” all bus routes will “operate on an enhanced Sunday schedule, seven days a week,” the DPT has advised.

A Government spokesperson said, “The Department of Public Transportation [DPT] is advising passengers that due to a recent increase in staff absences, as of Monday, January 17th and until further notice all bus routes will operate on an enhanced Sunday schedule, seven days a week. For more information visit gov.bm/bus or call 292-3851.

“The DPT apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the temporary service and is committed to resuming the full published bus schedule as soon as possible. Updates will be provided following a review of staffing levels next week.”

While the reason for the  ”recent increase in staff absences” was not stated, some entities are experiencing staffing challenges due to Covid related quarantines.

The island currently has 1,882 confirmed active cases — so approximately 1 of every 34 residents has Covid — and with all those with Covid expected to quarantine, plus many close contacts, there would be a significant amount of people in quarantine.

I wonder what is meant by ” an enhanced bus schedule ” a fancy term…now I have to ask three more questions

So how many drivers get to stay home and collect full pay? Why should the private sector who has been hit hard by the Government restrictions have to pay taxes to support them? Time to stop paying taxes especially land tax. Pay a day late and deduct 15% which would have been taken by the unlicensed “debt collector” and pay yourself instead.

Sunday schedule doesn’t serve Ord Road, Prospect, Pond hill and Spanish Point. Will persons have to walk to nearest point where buses are running only to watch them drive past with 17 people on board? Every half hour or hour you think only 17 people will be requiring the bus when it does run? So what happens when people outnumber 17 each hour and are left stranded? Oh, that’s right it’s not PTB problem. The shuttle services, train, horse & buggy come out, also jipsy drivers as well as unemployed with cars: book clients seize the opportunity now to earn a wage and assist persons to the jobs.
