Bank Warns Of Increase In Scam Attempts

January 21, 2022

HSBC Bermuda warned of an “increase in attempts by scammers to trick the public into surrendering confidential information or transferring funds to unintended recipients.”

A spokesperson said, “We would like to add our voice to recent messages provided by the Bermuda Police Service, warning the public that these types of fraudsters are growing increasingly active and sophisticated. We would again remind individuals that we will never ask you to share sensitive information by email or text message.”

“The Bank is aware that unsolicited text messages falsely claiming to be from HSBC have recently been received by individuals locally. These may contain links to websites asking the individual to provide confidential, personal or financial information.

“HSBC clients that receive a suspicious message purporting to be from the Bank, or believe that they have responded to a message sent by a fraudster, are advised to call the HSBC Contact Center at 299-5959 for assistance.

“Customers may follow us on Twitter and Facebook for ongoing HSBC advice and updates on this and other topics.”
