HSBC Warns Of Fraudulent Phone Calls
HSBC Bermuda issued a warning today about an increase in scam attempts targeting the public through phone calls [vishing] to obtain confidential information.
A spokesperson said, “HSBC Bermuda warned today of an increase in attempts by scammers to trick the public into surrendering confidential information through phone calls [or vishing]. The caller falsely claims to be from a local bank’s fraud team [identifying ongoing fraud on your account] and requests that you share your online banking login and transaction information and/or advising you to click on links to download an app. Their ultimate objective is to remotely take control of your computer to authorise fraudulent transactions.”
A bank spokesman advised: “HSBC will never ask you to disclose your PIN, security code or one-time password. We encourage you to remain vigilant and advise you to end the call and directly contact your Relationship Manager or call the HSBC Contact Center at 299-5959 if there is any doubt.”
The spokesperson said, “Lastly, we have comprehensive information on this topic available on our websites, which we strongly recommend you review. You can access it by clicking on this link www.hsbc.bm/help/fraud-guide/common-scams or www.business.hsbc.bm/en-gb/regulations/fraud-guide.”

It’s important to note that scammers can make the caller ID show the banks number to trick people into thinking it’s actually the bank calling.
