Athletes Earn Wins At Capital Speed Invitational

Members of the Bermuda National Athletics Association [BNAA] took to the track in Miramar, Florida to compete on the first day of the Capital Speed Invitational, with the athletes claiming a number of victories and season best times.

The BNAA noted that, “In a field of over 1100 competitors our boys and girls shined. On a day when the temperature soared to over 80 degrees, they stay unified and focused and competed at an high level.”

Elise Dickerson won the under 14 girls high jump gold medal with a top leap of 1.37m.

Jaeda Grant won the under 14 girls 1500m gold medal stopping the clock in 4:57:10, which met the Carifta Standard time. Grant would also win the under 14 girls 800m gold medal stopping the clock in a time of 2:25.32.

Arima Turner advanced to the under 14 girls 100m dash finish after she finished 2nd in the preliminaries clocking 12.96.

Miles Outerbridge advanced to the under 14 boy’s 100m dash finals after he finished 4th in the preliminaries with a time of 11.73, with Daelyn Scott just missing out finishing 9th clocking 12.32.

J’Naz Richards will also get a second run, clocking 13.18 in the 15-16 girls 100 meter dash preliminaries finishing 6th.

During the 15-16 boys 100 meter dash preliminaries, Denver Tucker clocked the fastest time of 11.22 to advance to the finals missing the Carifta Standard by .02.

Massassi Maxwell-Grant competed in the 17-18 women 100 meter dash preliminaries finished 9th with a time of 14.97, however, the officials believe there was timing glitches so officials will confirm the official time later.

Sancho Smith came up just shy of the Carifta Standard, finishing second winning the silver medal in the 17-18 men’s 800 meter run clocking a time of 1:59.37.

Outerbridge also reached the under 14 boys 200 meter dash finals, after finishing 5th in the preliminaries with a time of 24.46.

During the 15-16 girls 200 meter dash preliminaries, Richards finished 7th with a time of 28.63 to advance to the finals.

With a time of 23.32 during the 15 – 16 boys 200 meter dash preliminaries saw Tucker finish 2nd to advance to the final, Jaelyn Grant missed out on a spot in the final after finishing 13th clocking 24.69.
