Open Airways To Celebrate World Asthma Day
Open Airways will celebrate World Asthma Day on Tuesday [May 3] from 11.30am to 2.00pm at Victoria Park bandstand.
A spokesperson said, “After a 2-year hiatus due to Covid, Open Airways is excited to be back but with a new venue, this year we will be at Victoria Park bandstand on Tuesday 3rd May to celebrate “World Asthma Day”
“If you have asthma, please join us on Tuesday where we will be offering asthma education, and free giveaways of pillows, spacers and microfibre cloths, [while supplies last].
“Come and enjoy entertainment provided by some of our school students.
“World Asthma Day is celebrated around the world on the first Tuesday in May, the aim of this annual event is to promote awareness about asthma. Globally approximately 1000 people die every day from asthma, and sadly most of these deaths could have been prevented if the person had had access to the correct inhalers and the knowledge to know when and how to use their inhalers. With the correct treatment anyone with asthma can lead a full and active life.
“Come to meet us and our volunteers on Tuesday to discuss your asthma treatments, please bring your inhalers with you.
“Too many people rely on Ventolin to treat their asthma, and research shows that the more Ventolin a person uses the greater their chance of an asthma flare up or attack.
“Ventolin is for emergency treatment only and should not be used for daily treatment, using Ventolin more than 2 times a week shows a lack of asthma control.
“To celebrate World Asthma Day, Open Airways has distributed school asthma pouches containing information and a pillow voucher for a free pillow to all primary school students registered on the 2021/2022 School asthma registry, a collaboration between Open Airways, Department of Health, Ministry of Education and the KEMH Asthma Education Centre. All students with asthma should add their names to this annual registry, so that our team can better assist in distributing vital asthma information and care.
