June 8, 2022

When the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet of eleven 70-foot yachts, including the GoToBermuda team, arrive in Bermuda on June 13, they will have battled awe-inspiring 36-nautical miles and five ocean crossings.

More than 150 race crew from diverse walks of life, all age groups and more than 40 nations will be arriving on the island. Many will continue with this marathon ocean race of more than 40,000-nautical miles, joined by others in Hamilton.

As the race crew steps back on land, the Bermudian public can get a glimpse behind the scenes by visiting the fleet and touring a Clipper 70 – one of eleven in the world’s largest matched fleet of ocean racing yachts – for free on June 15,16 and 17 from 1 pm to 7 pm.

The above and below deck tour will be led by members of the Clipper Race crew who will have raced around 6,000nm from Seattle, United States, to Bermuda.

There will also be a virtual tour of a Clipper 70 on June 16 at 10 am, when a race skipper will provide an insight into life on board, including the navigation station, gallery area and living conditions.

On Sunday, June 19, the fleet will continue its circumnavigation as the fleet slip lines to set off on the final leg of the race.

The Slipping Lines Ceremony at Royal Bermuda Yacht Club starts at 9 am before the 11 yachts slip lines at 11 am ahead of their next stop in New York.

The Parade of Sail will be at noon when the fleet will parade along the harbour front supported by a flotilla of local sailing boats and supporters.

At 4 pm, out into the Great Sound, the yachts will perform a Le Mans start heading north to pick up a race thumb line for a fast sprint over just 700mn to New York.
