Audio: Song Commemorates Johnny Barnes
A new song celebrating the life of Bermudian Johnny Barnes has been released on YouTube.
The song, which is simply called Johnny Barnes, is written by Greg Morrison, who provides backing vocals and plays acoustic guitar on the record and produced by John Woolridge.
Mr Barnes, who died aged 93 on July 9 in 2016, was well known after staking a spot at the Crow Lane roundabout outside Hamilton, waving and greeting passers-by every morning from 1986. He stood down at the end of 2015 because of ill health.
The lead vocal in the song is by Korrin Lightbourne while Chelsea McNorton, Kiana Madeiros, and Nkosi Hollis provide backing vocals.
Among the musicians featured in the song are John Woolridge [acoustic guitar, piano and keyboard] and Wentworth Woolridge [electric guitar and bass].
A bronze statue of Mr Barnes, created by Bermudian sculptor Desmond Fountain, was placed on East Broadway in 1998.
