Photos: Eight New Corrections Officers Graduate
Adriel Charles, Adrian Kellyman, Blair Bean-Walls, Kimberly Govia, Jamel Thomas, Jashun Thomas, Shentoine Lambert and Sidney Mello graduated from a ten-week training course to become new full-time Corrections Officers.
A Passing Out Parade was held at the Co-Ed Facility on Friday, and Minister of National Security Michael Weeks was on hand to congratulate the group during the ceremony, which was also attended by the Commissioner of Corrections Keeva Joell-Benjamin and other invited dignitaries.
After years of hiatus, the Baton of Honour Award returned during this training course and went to Officer Jamel Thomas, who accepted the award from Minister Weeks on behalf of the Department.
Minister Weeks said, “Today’s modern Corrections Officer is an individual who conducts themselves with pride, honesty, integrity, impartiality and high ethical standards.
“Our newest Corrections Officers are well prepared for the challenges they face. And now more than ever, the public relies on Corrections Officers to carry out the mission of the Department to empower inmates to be responsible and productive citizens.”
“As Minister, I extend my appreciation for all that our Corrections Officers do in service to Bermuda and pledge the Government’s continued support of the Department of Corrections.
“To our eight newest officers, on behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, thank you all for answering the call to service and I wish you every success in this new and rewarding career.”
