Perinchief Wins Medal At Commonwealth Games

[Updating] Bermuda’s Jah-Nhai Perinchief  made an outstanding showing to win a bronze medal in the triple jump at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this morning [Aug 7]. He came out with a major leap to start, a distance of 16.92, which earned him the bronze medal and Bermuda’s second medal of these Games.

Update | Report from Stephen Wright | Jah-Nhai Perinchief etched his name into the annals of Bermudian sporting history after winning the bronze medal in the triple jump at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Perinchief’s first attempt of 16.92 metres was enough to earn him a spot on the podium in front of an atmospheric Alexander Stadium on the final day of the competition.

The 24-year-old becomes the first Bermudian to medal in athletics at a major Games since the 1990s.

“I feel great,” Perinchief told Bernews. “I’m happy to do it for Bermuda.

“I’ve always thought, ‘Why can’t I medal?’ I’m from a small nation, but we have a lot of talent.”
