[Updated] Queen Elizabeth II is under medical supervision at Balmoral “after doctors became concerned for her health” and all of the Queen’s children are gathering at, or are travelling to, her Scottish estate.

The Queen, 96, has ruled for longer than any other Monarch in British history.

Premier David Burt expressed his concern, saying in a tweet, “Our thoughts are with HM the Queen and the Royal Family at this time.”

A BBC story said, “The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace has said.

“All the Queen’s children are gathering at, or are travelling to, her Scottish estate near Aberdeen.

“Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision,” a statement said.

“It is very unusual for Buckingham Palace to put out a statement like this – it is usually unwilling to provide a commentary on the 96-year-old monarch’s medical matters, which are seen as private.”

Update: The Royal Family has confirmed that “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”

The BBC report, “Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

“Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday. The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

“With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

“Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week.

“At Buckingham Palace in London, crowds awaiting updates on the Queen’s condition began crying as they heard of her death. The Union flag on top of the palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST.
