Dame Flora Awarded DBE At Buckingham Palace
Dame Flora Duffy officially received her Damehood at Buckingham Palace in the United Kingdom, having earned the recognition for her ‘services to sport in Bermuda.’
Dame Flora tweeted the photos below, saying: “It’s been quite the last 6 days. Winning my 4th World Triathlon world title and then onto Buckingham Palace to receive my DBE. Thankful & grateful.”
She was made a ‘Dame Commander of the British Empire’ for services to Sport in Bermuda last year, with the honours stating she was “recognised for her exceptional contribution to sport in Bermuda over many years and for her outstanding achievements in triathlon, which include becoming the first and only person to ever win an Olympic gold medal for a British Overseas Territory.”
The official Royal Family social media accounts, which have over 25 million followers, posted images of some of the recipients, including the one below of Dame Flora.
Dame Flora Duffy raced to victory in Abu Dhabi last month to claim yet another World Championship title, becoming the four time WTS World Champion, and the first woman to accomplish such a feat.
In addition to being the first Bermudian to win a Gold Olympic medal, Dame Flora has won world titles across multiple federations, and has over a dozen world championship titles spanning the various federations and is widely regarded as one of the best triathletes of all time.
