Bermuda To Host 2024 Pan Am Hockey

January 24, 2023

The Bermuda Hockey Federation [BHF] announced that they have successfully won their bid to host the 2024 Women’s Pan American Challenge.

A spokesperson said, “The tournament serves as the qualifier for the 2027 Pan American Games, where the top two teams will advance. The competition is anticipated to take place from September 20th – 28th, 2024 at the National Sports Center in Pembroke, Bermuda.

“Having successfully hosted the qualifiers tournament for the Central American and Caribbean [CAC] Games in the spring of 2022, the BHF has a strong framework to build from as they continue to support the Pan American Hockey Federation in hosting the tournament.

“The BHF will be looking to partner with local vendors on the island and are optimistic that this event will boost our island’s visibility, create economic opportunities, and provide an exciting event for locals and international visitors to appreciate a high-performing standard of field hockey.

“Most excitingly, the island will be able to exhibit national pride for our participating Women’s team. The first Pan American Challenge Tournament was hosted in 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the Bermuda Women’s National Team made their first and only appearance in the challenge, placing fifth.

“Increasing their performance and rankings by winning the CAC qualifiers just this year, the National Women’s Team is one to watch out for as they continue their development under coach Kovin Moodley. The team look to achieve a place in the top four of the upcoming CAC Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2023.”
