CURB: National Day Of Racial Healing On Jan 17

January 12, 2023

Citizens Uprooting Racism Bermuda [CURB] said they “would like to bring to the community’s attention the observance of the global celebration of the National Day of Racial Healing taking place on Tuesday, January 17th.”

A spokesperson said, “This observance is part of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Truth, Racial, Healing and Transformation efforts.

“As the lead organization on anti-racism and restorative practice in Bermuda, it is fitting for CURB to endorse this global observation. CURB calls on the wider community to engage in activities, events, or strategies that promote healing and foster engagement around the issues of racism, bias, inequity, and injustice in our society. It is an opportunity for people and organizations to come together in their common humanity and take collective action towards creating a more just and equitable Bermuda.

“In addition to inviting your organization to acknowledge this day, CURB invites the community to attend scheduled events on January 17th. Events will be held at the BUEI with student sessions occurring from 8:30am until 3:30pm and community sessions planned for the evening from 6:30pm until 8:30pm. Student sessions involve key notes, historical snippets, interactive activities, and student led debates hosted by the Bermuda Debate Society.

“The evening session will highlight two of CURB’s community initiatives that promote racial awareness and healing, The Truth & Reconciliation Community Conversations, and our Restorative Practice training and conferencing. This will involve video clips, panel discussions and testimonials from facilitators and former participants of both programs.

“Come out to learn more about these two initiatives, listen to success stories and progress and join our efforts to bring about racial equality in Bermuda.

“The commitment to anti-racism in Bermuda is not just a CURB mandate but a community obligation. We look forward to seeing members of the community on January 17th.
