‘Join Movement Away From Single-Use Plastics’
The Beyond Plastic Bermuda has launched a new Primary Schools Assembly Programme to “encourage and inspire students to join the movement away from single-use plastics.”
A spokesperson said, “Beyond Plastic’s goal is to inspire future generations to live sustainably and care for their health as well as the health of the environment. The programme is called ‘#SNTSUP Classrooms’ and is available to all primary schools across the island. The acronym Say No To Single-Use Plastic has been promoted on all local media for the last year and likely familiar to most students.”
Katie Berry, of Beyond Plastic added, ‘We are delighted to be able to bring this programme to students to encourage them to become more engaged in their community. Being aware of the environment and teaching students how to live healthily and sustainably is extremely important to their future.’
“Beyond Plastic have partnered with the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] for the delivery of the school assemblies. BUEI is the National Operator for the Eco-Schools Bermuda programme, which promotes sustainable, student-led actions within schools.
“The ‘#SNTSUP Classrooms’ presentation consists of a lively 25-minute introduction to single-use plastic through an animated video and slide show. In addition, each student attending the presentation receives a 12-page activity book, filled with ideas on how they can #SNTSUP at school and at home.”
Beyond Plastic said they are “extremely grateful to One Communications who are generously sponsoring the programme.
Shira Jatto, Marketing Communications Director at One Communications said, “ONE Communications is proud to sponsor the Beyond Plastic initiative to eliminate single-use plastics. We look forward to joining this programme to educate the youth of Bermuda on the effects of plastic on our environment.”
Primary schools are encouraged to register for presentations available from February through May 2023. To book an assembly or for more information, please e-mail Hannah Horsfield at programmes@buei.bm.’

Why are the supermarkets using plastic bags for groceries and we are suppose to be getting away from it. It’s so baffling. What happened to brown bags, are they to expensive to use now.
My Plastic Shopping Bags from the Supermarkets I double up and make them Multi-use bags that last for months. They carry much more than just groceries. I hate being lumped into categories with everyone else like I am just a number in a herd! I have been doing this for many years. I go green! Paper bags do not last that long, and they eat up trees to make them unless made from recycled paper.
I also have proper bags bought from the market I reuse. If people just discard after one use, shame on them!
