Saltus Hosting Bermuda Youth Film Festival

February 17, 2023

The second annual Bermuda Youth Film Festival is being hosted by Saltus, with students invited to submit their short films.

A spokesperson said, “The second annual Bermuda Youth Film Festival is being launched today and will be hosted by Saltus. The inaugural year was a tremendous success, with the competition being won by an animated film created by Zen Marley Mello of CedarBridge. Students from across the island were able to win prizes for their creative efforts in filmmaking.

“This event is open island wide to all students aged 11 to 18 years and they are invited to submit short films, in three categories: 60 second sprint; 1–3-minute short shorts and 3–5-minute short films. Entries are limited to one per category per student, but students can submit multiple entries [in different categories]. We encourage schools to support a variety of student entries.

“All films will need to include the 2023 ‘signature item’ which is the moongate. All films that are submitted will be required to have a teacher acknowledgment form to ensure that the films meet the requirements.”

Therese Bean, Head of Creative Arts at Saltus and founder of the Bermuda Youth Film Festival, said, “This year’s festival promises another outstanding opportunity to have your film work showcased on the big screen at BUEI and to a live audience who can help celebrate what might just be the beginning of your film making career.”

The spokesperson said, “Final films will be due on Thursday, 26th May and judging will occur within the first week of June. For more information and details, visit the website.

“We look forward to seeing you for the 2023 Bermuda Youth Film Festival.”
