Backeberg & Albert College Win Gold At CISAA

Skye Backeberg and the Albert College Panthers won gold at the CISAA winter championship game in Junior Girls Volleyball in Canada.

A spokesperson said, “On March 1, the Albert College Panthers took home gold, at the CISAA [Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association] winter championship game in Junior Girls Volleyball.

“Bermuda’s own Skye Backeberg, a Grade 10 boarding student at Albert, is a proud member of the team. Skye has also competed in the school’s competitive basketball team, participated in the school’s drama production, and attended an adventure camp in Ontario’s Algonquin Park, making the most of her experience of Albert’s 5As program.

“The Junior Girls Volleyball team went on the road for their championship game and brought home the gold. The team put forth a strong effort executing on both offence and defence and went undefeated for the day. In the end, they won over Toronto Montessori School 3-0 in the final.”

Dianne Purdie, Albert’s Assistant Head – Senior School, said “this was a season of tremendous growth as a result of hard work during practices and teamwork while on the court. This teamwork was what made it possible for the team to make it into the final match, and ultimately, win over the only undefeated team all season. The players dug deep and played each point as the winning point, until the final whistle.”
