Erica Hawley said she learned plenty of lessons from her opening race of the season after finishing 45th at the World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi yesterday [March 3].
The Bermudian, competing in only her third WTCS race, finished the elite women’s race in 1hr 1min 8sec with splits of 10:19, 31:09 and 17:52.
The 24-year-old, who is on the Asics World Triathlon development team, wrote on Instagram: “While p45 might not sound like a great result, there were positives to take from the race, and I accomplished many of my process goals. It’s just tough when the margin for error is so small.
“The first race of the year is always a bit nerve-wracking, but starting just my third ever WTCS for the first race of the season is a new level of nerves!
“It was a waiting game to get on the start list, but I’m very grateful for the opportunity and gained so many invaluable lessons and experience racing at this level. Plus, I beat my start number, which is always nice. I definitely won’t be forgetting this race/course anytime soon.”
